Default what tires!!??

I need to buy some new rubbers for my 2000 z28 its got some mods right around 415 to the rear tires. right now it has zr1 wheels on it with 315 35 zr17's on the back and 275 40 zr17's on the front. I put about 5,000 or so miles a yr. i looked at getting some M/T street radial II's for the back and nitto 555's for the front. i do hit the drag strip about 5-10 times a yr but its mostly a daily driver, i love carving corners!! i don't do any rain driving only take it out in good weather. any suggestions on a good tire combo??

If it was my car I would do:

BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S - $155 /pc (Front - 275/40/17)

Mickey Thompson 3744R - Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Tires - $219 /pc (Rear - 315/35/17)

The BFG's are a really great tires for the price, and will last a long while on the front of your car while giving you the cornering you want. I found them at Tirerack for $155 a piece. The MT ET Street Radial IIs will give you excellent traction on the street and at the track. They wont last forever, but no drag radial will. I found them at Summit for $219 a piece.

If you really like to corner the car hard, the drag radials will not give you all the performance you can get out of a different construction tire. They are set up with a softer sidewall for enhanced straight line traction. By the same token the sidewall will give up something to lateral grip.

I like the BFG Super Sport A/S, but I really like the BFG Sport tires. The tred pattern looks sweet, they handle rain good, and have great grip in the corners. I know my car is a v6, but I live around a ton of curvy paved roads, and these things grip awesome at high speeds. They wear pretty good too. I think I put close to 30,000 on a set and they are just getting to the point where i need to change them.

I have also heard Nitto 555's are a great street tire too.

I currently have the G-Force Sports and am amazed with the dry traction, even with the LT1 which has "off-the-line" torque, the tires still hook really well (except when driving in near-freezing temps).

I'm **** and like having the same brand tire all the way around if I can. I'd suggest the 555's for the front and NT05's for the rear.

Check out Discount Tire Direct for the cheapest prices on Nitto's btw, they can't be beat. (prices on the site might seem high at first, but remember, they have 100% free shipping)

^^^ I agree with that guy! The nittos all the way around would look good and the 05R's will hook good.

im not really picky as far as having the same brand at all 4 cornors. do you guys think 05r's hook better than the M/T street radial II's??

I have the NT05R's mounted on my 17X11's now. I haven't ran them yet. You shouldn't have a problem hooking with them. I think the biggest difference you will see between the 2 will be treadwear. The M/T will wear quicker than the Nitto by far.

Not to mention the price difference.

From what I've seen, the MT's have a little higher threshold before they need to be upgraded, but the NT05R's will be more than adequate for your power setup and use (and cheaper )

mastertomos what do you mean by a little higher threshold?? if everyone thinks the 05s r better then i think thats what im gonna go with. my only other concern is how will the nitto drag radials on the back handle the corners??

I hate to quote myself. As far as R-compound Nitto Tires go, the NT-555RII will give better lateral grip than the drag radials, but give you less straight line traction than the drag radials. In contrast, the drag radials will give you more straight line traction while sacrificing lateral grip. Essentially the NT-555R drag radial and the NT-555RII use the same tread compound. The fdifference is in the internal construction.
