Default 5.3 vs 243 heads?

Im about to pull my motor and trans and have the trans rebuilt and put a larger cam in and im wondering what heads would be better for this application? Im looking to run a big cam however nothing bigger than an MS3. Im also going to get a set of dual springs and use the hardened pushrods that are in it. the million dollar questions is whats better for my application? the 5.3s to bump up my compression or the better flowing 243s?

oh and i may put a small 75-100 shot on in the future.

243/799. buy them stock, find a good head porter. if they do it right you can get just as much compression and great flow. i would also recommend EPS cams. go look at their website and do a search in the dyno section. they make great power and are very reliable/streetable. you could also give Geoff a call and have him custom grind you a cam.

is there any difference between the 243 and the 799? im guessing something to do with the valves? and any reason for choosing EPS over some of the other cam companies?

i had a custom grind comp cam from straightline performance it was not as radical as i wanted but it had great street manners and made good power (389 rwhp and 390 rwtq through stock 853 heads and ls1 intake)

however on this car im shooting for 450 rwhp with exhuast and a fast intake.

Properly ported 243s will be the way to go. By that I mean none of those budget port jobs. Pay the price for the best heads you can put on, even a small cam will then make 450 rwhp.

243 vs 799, they are the same design casted in two different places. the valves have nothing to do with the casting. now the Z06 came with the light weight valves but that does not define 243 heads.

from what i've heard EPS lobes are easier on the valvetrain than XE-R lobes. but the ramp rates are such that it gives great under the curve power. which is why their cams such as the 222/226 can make such great power with out much duration. and we are talking 395 rwhp with stock 241's. and 430 rwhp with stock 243's through an a4. do a search you'll like what you find.

send them to a good head porter and let them worry about it. it's an art form as much as it's a science. companies like TEA and AI have produced some killer 243's.

Look into Advanced Inductions newly revised version 243 heads. With a set of those, a EPS 226/230 or a 230/234 and ported Fast 90, you will see a easy 450-475 at the rear. I picked up over 50 rwh with my EPS 226/230 cam. After talking with phil and ron at AI, I'm definitely doing a set of their 243 heads. Their product is top notch.
