Default 306 cam and VS2700 springs?

Yo yo!

I know in the sticky guide it says that the 306 can use the Bullet VS2700 springs and be fine.

The Bullet VS 2700 is a NICE single spring that works with stock retainers, locks and locators. It has 145 lbs of seat pressure and 360 lbs open pressure while handling cams with moderate ramp speeds up to .575 lift safely (GM 846, CC 503, CC 306, my 226/230 .565/.565 111 LSA cam, etc). These are made of a nice quality wire and will live a long time. probably one of the nicest single 'drop in" springs for the LT1. These are $130 shipped thru Bullet Racing cams.

But will it? I'm getting paranoid because I do plan to shift at about 6200 intitally and eventually to about 6600.

My paranoia had led me to using 987 Springs and using the associated hardware:

4771-16 locators
740-16 retainers
611-16 locks

And I hear I need a set of new seals too (are these hard to do?). Also! Are all these "drop" in?

Either way is it needed or is there a better combination to make happen? What would you all use in my scenario? Budget is in mind, but not everything.

Thanks,
Christopher

I believe the drop in aspect is in that they use stock locks, retainers. Don't know anything about those specific springs so I can't tell you 100%

No personal experience with the VS2700's but I used the Crane 10308 dual spring kit with a similar but slightly larger cam then you and had no valve float issues. Peaked right around 6K and the tune was set to shift at 6200.

Cheap drop in kit good to .6 lift and retains stock hardware .

10308 isn't so cheap anymore. It's still lower price, but it used to be $150 now it's $230 or so.

I'm just hoping to go well with my nitrous build. My friend and I used a 306 in his V8 RX7 and it turned out great and a 230/236 in his Camaro. I figured to go a little larger and have room to grow at the moment. Hopefully PCM for less can nail down the tune and I can hit 330-350HP.

Btw, is this a good time to have injectors installed? Fuel pump? are they needed.

If you have time to wait I would suggest going with our new pac-1519. Yes its a 1519. 150lbs of seat pressure with a slightly higher rate than the 1518. Also it has a higher frequecy rate to handle more RPM's.

Woohoo big dyno numbers. That means it must win every race by default!

Keep learning grasshopper, dyno numbers dont win races. My baby cam only has annihilated every 306 car I have ever ran.

The 306 can run good, but most people don't set them up right.

So just to clarify, the 306 is **** and can run good. So "**** = run good."

Gotcha. Tony Sheppard must have a ton of pieces of **** in his car cause it "runs good."

Edit, saw you have that LE cam. Its a tamer version of what i have, you should love it

Big peak dyno numbers are great for bragging rights and highway roll races.

Unless you're gonna back up a big peaky cam with very aggressive gears and a huge stall don't be surprised if you get beat by a much "weaker" car at the track.

BTW: OP never said he has the cc306. He mentions it in the first sentence, then actually says he has what looks like an LE1 cam that should run great in a stock shortblock.

I completely agree.

No he doesnt say that, he was quoting what Lloyd said about the bullet springs a while back. Would have been nice if he had used the quote option though, to avoid any confusion.

OP put 306 in his title.

The dyno chart shows 5200-6500 all above 350whp. Dyno numbers don't mean anything so I won't show you.
Runs same as any other cam only 6 speed does. But it's slower cause you said it is.

I'll leave you alone cause you're the expert on every LT1 ever apparently.
