Default Tire choice for my T/A

I have the C5 Y2k wheels which are the 17's up front and 18's in the rear. I was looking at some Summitomo tires for them as they are my street wheels and I have had Summitomo in the past and they were a good all around tire.. Right now the rims have 245 45 17's up front and 275 40 18 in the back. Should I go 275 40 all around or is there another tire size that would be a better choice?

Id definately run 275/40/17's up front. Looks way better (assuming you have a 9 or 9.5" wide rim?)

Not sure about the backs, I've never run 18's or messed with them.

Unless you're on a budget there's a lot better tires out there than Summitomo. I have the new Goodyear Eagle GT's and they are fantastic tires, plus they are easy on the wallet.

I had Eagle F1's on my T/A before and hated them. The tread wear was horrible and they sucked in the rain.. I am on a budget but I have also had the Summitomo HTRZ 2 before in the past and they worked great in all weather and driving conditions and lasted 50,000 miles.. I can get all 4 for 425.00 .. Thats a steal..

i did a 255/40 on my 17x9.5 up front to match the sidewall hight on my 295/35/18 18x10.5 rears. the 275/40/17 is alot of sidewall compared to 295/35/18, and i didnt think it would look right with a fatter sidewall up front. im very happy with the matching sidewalls on my tires.
and here is the tires i have been using.

I was going to say something about that too, but if he had sumitomo's that lasted 50,000 miles he must not beat on the car at all, not insulting anyone, but my sumitomos lasted about 3 months and were down to the wires on the rear and hooked up like **** after the first month of use at any psi.

If your looking for a good tire without spending a lot I prefer those General Exclaim UHP tires over the Summitomo. They have decent grip and a nice ride. Plus they have a sporty looking tread pattern. We have sold a ton of these.

My sumitomo 315's have lasted me almost 9000 miles and they are bare. Sumitomo's suck in my opinion.

Do NOT use summitomos, mine did not hook at all, and I had one blow out on the highway totaling my car. You will also definitely need something wider than 285 on the 10.5" rears. IMO I think a 315/35/18 would fit perfectly. 285 do not fit and give it that "hella flush" ricer look.

Maybe I am missing it, but I don't believe it says how wide his rear rims are. 275/285 would be good on a 9 or 9.5 inch wide rim. 315's on a 10.5 or 11"

Sorry I assumed he has a 10.5 or 11" rear wheel since it's an 18" like me and Sexytransam have.

I don't think they make 18" C5 Y2K in 9.5"

Thanks for the concern but I too have had 2 sets of Summitomos in the past and they both did great. I drove from Fl to VA and from VA to NJ countless times while being in the Military.. I even ran them up to 155mph without any issues ( on a closed track of course).. They did great for me. I have had Eagle F1's, BDG KDW, and Cooper tires on the T/A as well and the best all around tire for all seasons is the Summitomo in my case. There are better tires out there for sure but not for the price. I want to have a set of tires for the street and then throw my Slicks on for the track or what not.. I drive my car maybe 6000 miles a year so I really dont see the point in spending 200.00+ for a tire when I can get all four tires for around 400.00..
