Default Nitrous or Turbo

Hey guys i need some of your advise to help me make up my mind.

i have a 383 shortblock with a forged crank and forged rods in it.

and i was planning on a nitrous setup but lately i been seeing some good deals on sts turbo kits. And i really like the idea on a boosted LT1
So basically i need some of your opinions on what would be better for my needs.

and i really need to make up my mind before i start buying parts (like pistons) because i know theres a big difference in a nitrous motor and a motor for boost.

this is going to be a street car. its a 95 z28. built and stalled auto.

im planning on running advanced induction 200cc heads with either setup.

Biggest question is budget! You will spend 3000-? Just getting into the turbo world... Nitrous is alot less than that and there are guys like me that use both..... turbos on lt1s can be difficult in the engine bay retaining the A/C of course there is the rear mount setup that works VERY well.

What is the compression ratio you expect to have with your current set up?
TURBO -----8.5 up to 9.5
N2o------stock on up it does not really matter.

Budget really isnt a big deal.
This is going to be a long build.most likely 2 years
And i am willing to spend the extra if need be. but i just want to make sure i do it right.

im looking for 550hp when all said and done. i know its attainable with either setup. but what is better for a street car?

Thats what i thought at first as well thats why i was going to go with nitrous for sure.

But as i look into it more, the more i realize it isnt as cheap as everyone thinks/says if you do it the right way.

im looking at a minimum of 1500-2k for a good setup from nitrous outlet. and i cant get a sts turbo kit for 2500-3k. and i dont have to refill anything with a turbo.

"And i am willing to spend the extra if need be. but i just want to make sure i do it right."

That is exactaly the mentality that will get your car built right. Never try to go the cheap way, espically with a nitrous or turbo setup! Good luck with the build

If budget isn't a factor, then I say go turbo. 550 horse will be easy with the right turbo setup.

Nitrous>Turbo, I love the way a boosted LT1 sounds but it's ALOT cheaper just to go spray. Alot less money and easier to tune and install is a cinch! Good luck with whatever way you go, just keep us posted!

i ran nitrous in my car, but i got tired of never having the bottle or not having it open when i needed it. and getting refills all the time is annoying and expensive. So i tore out the nitrous and built a turbo set-up. i LOVE the turbo set-up! nothing to re-fill and the power is ALWAYS there. that's the reason i went turbo, i wanted to have power that i could use whenever i wanted

Boostedlt1,

what your setup and what did it set you back if you dont mind me asking?

i know nitrous is cheaper in the short. but in the long run if your spray alot its going to cost alot to refill.

I still cant make up my mind on this tho.

and i dont have anyone in vegas thats wants to deal with the LT1 motor so i am thinking nitrous will be easer to set up and tune.

And i think with an AI heads and cam 383 plus 150shot will make the power i want.

Nitrous is cheap, for now, plus like said before it isn't always there.
If money isn't a factor do a front mount, yea more expensive but better imo.
Front mount 383 will easily make 550 at the wheels.

Does anyone make a front mount kit? or will i have to have one fabricated.

what is the normal cost of going turbo?

because im already building a forged 383 with an Advanced Induction top end.
And it's not that money is no object. Its more measure twice cut once kinda thing ya know. if im going to do it i would rather do it right the first time and not have to redo my whole setup because i halfassed it the first time.

Here's a kit, never seen anyone use it, but it looks like it has all the piping.

Id say about 5k for a front mount, maybe a little more, depends on turbo size and how much boost you want.

http://www.lt1boost.net/ is realquick's site. I think Rall's on here is running one of his kits making like 64x to the wheels. Should be a build thread of car in this section. There are some people on cz28 running his kits also with good luck.
