Default A couple of LQ4 questions

Fist of all, bad lifter killed my ls1. Now i dont know what rout to take. Lq4 or forged ls1.

I found a 05 lq4 with 35k. Guy at the junkyard turned the truck on, oil pressure was good with no noises- sounded really good. Engine will be a full longbock with manifolds and pcm. Price- $1300. Good price? I'll be throwing the eps 226/230 112lsa cam. Considering going with some 243 milled, if ptv will allow and if its within my budget. Im assuming transmission and accessories just swap over.

Or, i could purchase a forged ls1 shortblock with 6k miles for 1900 and throw some stock 241's on there.

Go ls1? Wait for a better deal on an lq4 or lq9? Let me know what you think guys.

For info-Car is full bolton, ls6 intake, pt4k stall.

imo 1300 is a good price . . . why do you need to mill heads with that cam? i have the same cam sittin in my room but on a 116lsa and i don't need to mill them when i put it in (but i might cause mine will be for F/I), the engine it'll go in will have 243's also

typo/grammar check- i mean to say that i will prob mill the heads to the point where i wont have any ptv issues. to gain some compression.

yea see if u could get the ls1 for like 1600 or 1650. if not then u could always get that lq4 and sell off all the stuff u dont need.

what exactly happened to ur motor?

$1300 > $3000

For a good forged LS1 rebuild, it's gonna run you at least $2,200. Minimum. Assuming you assemble the shortblock yourself.

Failed lifter took out cam, timing chain, sprocket, couple of valves and who knows what else. Getting it checked this weekend. After i get a quote for the fix ill make my decision.

go with the lq4. mill the stock heads .030. get upgraded pushrods and springs. ls2 head gaskets. cam should work without ptv issues.
lq4 have 7cc spherical dish
but never hurt to check ptv clearance with any cam install.
317/243/799 heads share intake/exhaust runners cc and flow and valve sizes
chambers differ. 317 has bigger chamber

Thanks for the info. This will probably be the best bang for the buck.

With a stock head gasket, I believe that it will be around 10.2:1. I know that with my 62cc PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 heads and a stock head gasket that it will be 10.55:1...

My 18k mile LS6 blew up randomly on Saturday.

I ran into a good deal on a short block low mile LQ4.
Assuming my LS6 crank is not too hurt and reusable, should I swap that crank over? Or is the LQ4 crank good enough?
Sorry to hijack, I'm in the same position lol
