Im rebuilding a 350. Its a 84 vintage, 2pc rear seal.

In my shop manual it says that the crankshaft end play should be .004" min.

Im checking the end play just as they instruct in the manual and Im getting exactly .004".

.004" is the biggest feeler gauge I can get in there. .005" will not fit.

I have heard and read other places that the min end play should be as much as
.016"

What is the spec for end play on the crankshaft? Am I ok of no?

Much thanks

Did you hand tighten the mains and knock the crank forward and back to align the thrust surface?

I'd run it at .004. If you don't want to run it that tight take the bearing out and sand the thrust surface with fine paper on a flat piece of material.

I did knock it foreword and back. I did this 3 separate times on two different days so I'm pretty sure my measurement is good.

But when I did these measurements I had all of the main caps tightened to spec.

No pistons/rods were installed, but the mains were torqued.

I'll try it just hand tight.

Thanks

.004 is good to go.
you checked it correct (torqued).
