Default New Wheels.... Tire size help...

I'm purchasing some C5 ZO6's tomorrow, They are 17x9.5 all the way around...

I want to run a 255 on the front and 285 out back...

I need to know what side wall size to run?

Replace the X's please...

255/XXR17

285/XXR17

Please help, thanks.

if the wheels r the same width, use the same size tire... 275/40x17 is the correct size for a 9.5" wheel... if u MUST use different size tires, which will look funny, use a 255/45up front, with a 285/40 in the rear, both 26" tall...

The rears will look alright, but the fronts will be sucked in WAY to much and look kind of goofy IMO. I would do the same size all the way around.

285/40/17 (same for a 275 as well)

The smallest I would do for the front is a 275 tire. I have the same size wheels you do OP and 275 looks good. I had a 245 tire on my painted SS's one time and swore I would never do that again cause it looked dumb as hell and I was afraid of the tire coming off and the only reason I went with it was because my car is a DD and I needed a tire and the tire shop I went to had a used 245 tire and that was the only tire they had to fit a 17" wheel. A 245 is way small for a 9.5" wide wheel. If I was you, I would either get 275's all the way around so you could swap the front with the rear when ever they need rotated cause if you get directional tires, you can't swap side but you can swap the front with the back atleast or I would go 275 up front and 285 in the rear. That way the car looks uniform and not like you were trying to "Make" tires fit.

I thought about it, there's really not much of a difference in 285 and 275... I'm going with 275/40R17 Sumitomo HTR Z II, I've read mixed reviews, and there all i can afford is the main reason I'm going with them.
