my gf was looking at getting into an ls1 and we found at a dealer a black 2002 Trans Am with 100,xxx miles on it, super clean, auto, black leather interior, fully loaded. I cant stress how clean this car is, and it is completely, 100% stock. They want 8k for it. Is this a good deal or should she pass? what kind of car would i be looking at mileage and condition would i be looking at for this price range.

thanks

Not a bad deal especially from a dealer. TEst drive it and see how it is.

If the car was for you and you were good at fixing things yourself, I would say go for it. Since it is for your GF, no, I wouldn't want my GF or wife driving a 100k miles plus car unless absolutely necessary due to financial restraints. Things break past 100k miles even if carefully maintained. IMHO, keep looking unless you can eliminate many of the problems that could cause a breakdown, from every hose in the car to the fan belts, water pump, etc.... Double standard, you bet, but life doesn't play fairly and I don't like thinking of consequences involving stranded female motorists, especially ones that you like or love. It can happen in any car, even a new car, but put the odds in your favor. $8,000 can buy many nice low mileage cars in this economy(doesn't have to be an appliance car either, it could be an LS1). $10,000 asking prices can be whittled down to $8,000, especially with cash in hand. Good luck!
