Hawk LS Series Harmonic Balancer Installation Tool

Here is the Hawk LS Series Harmonic Balancer Installation Tool. It has been on market for 8 years now and proven itself to be a must when installing a harmonic balancer. Universal installer tool kits do not work well with the GM LS Series motors. No longer do you have to chance stripped or damaged crank threads trying other installation methods.

There are two versions offered, the GM LS1, LS6, LS2 & LS3 or the GM LS7. The GM LS7 version is approximately 3 inches longer due to the deeper crank threads in the GM LS7. So the tool needs to be longer. The GM LS7 version can be used on other LS motors but there may be clearance issues with the added length of the tool during use.

I bought 2 of these back when they first hit the internet. A must-have for A4 cars.

Friendly tip. Oil the threads before every use. It makes them last longer.

Please tell me why it would matter on the trans type :D

There seems to be a bit of confusion why there are two versions.

There are two versions offered, LS1, or LS7 note the LS7 version is approximately 3 inches longer due to the deeper crank threads in the LS7. So the tool needs to be longer.

*The LS7 version can be used on a LS1 but there may be clearance issues with the added length of the tool during use.

*The price difference between the version’s is due to the add cost of material and method of shipping. This is why a LS1 version is offered at a much lower cost.

Because M6's can be put in 4th, thread the stock bolt in, TQ pulley, install new bolt. Done. No install tool required ;)

I never use this tool on manual cars. Only automatics.

Ah I gotcha, I use mine on M6s and A4s (I have the only A4 F-body I have ever worked on :() Still doesnt change the fact that I do not want to pull the pulley on by a spinning bolt. And that is the reason I have the tool. I have a Kent Moore flywheel holding tool for keeping the motor still ;)

I got to use the tool last week end putting the balancer on my LS6 and it worked fanstatic. Just thought it was great I'm so glad it bought it. I've read some terrible stories about installing the balancer but the Hawk tool makes it so easy.

Best post of the day

Just wanted to quote this part for clarity.

I *thought* I had the baddest, macdaddy balancer installer kit in my toolbox. It came in a nice plastic case, with all kinds of adapters, plates, bolts, washers, etc... but guess what ?

The dang thing wouldn't work on my LS2. :toetap:

I actually took the OEM crank bolt, cut the head off, turned it down in a lathe and threaded it to fit inside my installer tool. Probably wasted 1-2 hours dicking around trying to make it work... (and eventually it did)

In hindsight, it would have been much easier/smarter to just buy the Hawk installer tool.

I just wanted to post my two cents in this thread, since it might help someone from running into the same problems I had with a "universal" kit.

when ever I try to click the link to check out the price of the balancer, I get a 403 forbidden page...

We got a bunch of these ready to go and now there is the option to purchase an OEM LS balancer bolt or an ARP LS balancer bolt. Thanks!

I tried to checkout on the Colorado Speed website and it keeps asking me to change the ship to address. I'm in Vancouver, BC Canada if that makes any difference.

What a jackass.

I was also waiting for the motor to slide off that block of wood as he was hitting it so he could bust up the cast oil pan.

FYI, there will be a 1-2 day delay on shipping the balancer tools. We'll get caught up soon. Thanks.
