Okay, my mom doesn't want me to buy a ss or a ws6 because she thinks that the insurance would be too high. I am 16,and i was wondering how much would insurance be for me? If I got a 1998-2002 camaro ss or ws6, how much would it be? Thanks

:angel:Hi,
the rates will not be bad until you become the primary driver. The vehicle should be in mom or dad's name. List yourself as student driver on the other vehicles they own. High$$$$$$$$$$$ until you turn 25 years. Keep tickets to a minimum/better yet none..... Make good grades and take a drivers ed to help rates...have a blessed day........jim

We're car enthusiasts not insurance agents. I have my vehicles insured with Progressive, you can get an instant price at their website or call them 24/7.

Most cities have phone books and the numbers for the insurance companies are in there

Better to set your sights on something else for now little man,

You'll pay more for insurance than I do a Home Mortgage

Not to mention all the tickets you'll get driving one of these cars,

How about a nice Chevy Cobalt ?

37 MPG, And insurance rates you can afford $ $

You sound like my mom lol. But yeah i'm calling state farm tuesday too see what they say. Actually, i'll talk to my cousin who works there. And i know that i can get liability and only pay $300 each 6 months which is $50 a month. ANd yeah, my parents told me that i can't get a ticket the first year i have my liscense, if I do, then they take it for a year

Unless you pay cash for the car you'll have to get full coverage, so it'll be more than twice as much as you figured. Unless your mommy buys it for you....

Stop acting like a whiny brat. A Mustang is better than most anything that other 16 year-olds are driving..

Now, the insurance is not going to be as outrageous as what the "word of mouth" of it is - I would guess you will be paying about $2500-$3500/year if the car is in your name. That may sound like a lot, but that goes with your age. As others have said, if the car is in your fathers name where he is listed as the primary driver and you're the secondary, it wouldn't be as bad. The rates will drop each year that you are accident/ticket free, so avoid them.

Now, go convince your parents that you will be responsible with said vehicle. ;) Good luck, son.

I know it is, but I have enough money to get a ss, or ws6

It'll probably be over $2000 a year. When I started driving at 16, I had a then 3 year old truck and paid over $2000, registered and insured under my parents. I can't image the cost had it been registered and insured under my name.

When I turned 25, insurance went down to $600 a year with my now 11 year old truck. I bought my T/A at 26 and insurance went to $1000 a year, due to the type of car it is. I have no tickets or accidents.

I am glad I didn't have a fast car young. I know I would have wrecked it.

I think I'm just going to get this 03 GT, then when it gets paid off, I'm going to get a SS or ws6. Hopfully they wont be too exspensive

Well wait, I'm almost certain that a 2003 Mustang GT would be in the same "insurance tier" as an SS or WS6... so get quotes on everything before you make a hefty decision. If you do not have the VIN #s of the potential car purchases, grab some from an equivalent car off of eBay, call your insurance company, and get the rates.

Honestly, if I was a parent who deemed my son responsible enough to drive an '03 GT as his first car (and I'm not saying I will be in that boat when parenthood comes knocking), then I would not differentiate much between said Mustang and a Camaro or Trans Am. If you have the money (and apparently you do not, since you stated it's going to have to be "paid off"), you're going to spend the money regardless as to what you get, and your parents find you suitable, you might as well get what you want. That said, I do not advise you, at sixteen years old, to start taking out loans on cars already.

When I was shopping around for my T/A, I also considered an Audi TT and got quotes from my insurance for both cars. I walked in and told them I was in the market for a car and they gave me quotes. I don't remember exactly what the quotes were, but I think the T/A was slightly more due to the V8.

i got my car when i was 18 a z28 its like 2400 for me with state farm in my name...im sure an ss might be more lol...BUT you will deff get a ticket haha aint no way ur keepin it from speeding haha but have it in ur parents name and it will be cheaper and u will also have to show them ur report card since ur an A student.. i had to do that and do a driving report thing for a week...they gave me a book and i logged 10 trips over 20 min i think the time limit was and u just fill out questons in the book and bring it back...that also lowered my cost..good luck

I do not agree with the statement that a Z28 is a lot cheaper. I'm in the market for another Camaro and there is 2 ss' within 200 miles of my location one for 5.8K and the other for 7K. Both around 90K miles and in good condition.
