windage tray??

Default windage tray??

i have a 2001 ss camaro i took the old engine apart to put a 383 ls6 in it i noticed that the windage tray that bolts to the mains is not there?? the one bolted to the oil pan is there does all ls1/6 have them or need them

Its supposed to be there, IF you are referring to the 383 when you stroke the LS motor the throws on the crank will hit the windage tray, Some people bend them with a hammer, On mine I found the easiest way to to make it work was to use a few washers between the tray and the main caps, Then rotate and make sure no contact. May have been an issue (if we are talking about the 383) where the tray hit and the builder decided to leave it off.. If its the stock 01 F-body engine it should be on the engine for sure.

will it be ok to just use the one in the pan??

The one in the pan is for the oil pickup tube. And yes the engine would be ok, but would make more power with the factory windage tray.
