Exclamation Need help 98 to 02 PCM swap

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my z28. One thing it will not go into closed loop it try's but at soon it hits closed loop the cars dies. So keeping it in open loop it feels like it's not right. Rev it sounds like a cylinder is not firing right. I am going to replace the crank sensor and relrean the PCM to see if fixs it. If not I don't what it is. I repin the harness from the 98 for a 02 PCM and check the harness a couple times to see if I miss a pin everything checkouts. So here is my question, does the vin need to much the bcm for vats? Also when I got it running in open loop to take it to be tune. the car shut off on the dyno and when it shut off the laptop loss connection to the PCM. Right now I don't know if it's the PCM or something esle. Thanks in advance!

Rob

If it ran fine before the pcm swap then you have three things : wiring, pcm, tune. If it ran crappy before too then its anybody's guess.

I hate throwing parts at it but what I can do. Well I am going to pick up a crank sensor to see if that helps and hopefully I don't have 2 relearn.

Go back through your wiring make 100% sure that each wire matches up, its sooo easy to mis pin.
I have code sheets if you want to verify again.
Go one wire at a time block by block.

NO the BCM does not care about the new PCM.

Thanks I Can cross that off my list. I got it from a member here and he did the swap for me. Which I am thinking the PCM is bad or something is wrong with my tune.

Did it run fine before the swap or are you doing the swap to try and fix something?

We have the following:
with 98 car ran fine.
swapped pcm and wiring now car does not run right.

Who moved you tune from the 98 to the new pcm?
I know joe just puts in a stock 2002 fbody file.

I know that joe tests them before he sends them, so i dont think its a bad pcm.
I can call him and im sure he will send you a 2nd pcm to test just to make 100% sure its not a bad pcm.
DO you have access to hp tuners?
If you do please start up a log then start the car and let it run.
I want to see what the pcm is seeing with the 02 sensors.
I have seen some wrong pinout sheets, i think you may have a miswiring issue.
Take 2 pictures, one of each pcm block, take off the protestors.
I want to see how its pinned out. Maybee we can see a miswire.
I will also send you today the sheets I use I have had 100% sucess with these, others i have seen are wrong.

Any news or updates on this thread. I did the same swap and have the exact same problems with mine. Very frustrating.

It sound like the idle tables were not correctly adjusted for the cam.
