Southern Members - Might go to Mardi Gras

I know its to late to get a hotel real close but that doesnt matter to me.
Anyone ever been?
Any ideas on where to stay that would be safe and not to far?
I think I would rather take a cab to and from than drive there anyways, just because i know i will be drinking.

Come on down! You would be surprised about finding a hotel room. With the economy like it is, alot of people don't have the money to come down for Mardi Gras. Do a search for the downtown hotels and see. How long do you plan on being here? All way thru Tuesday?

You can google most of the New Orleans parade routes and find a place in that vicinity.

Don't try to pee in alley or something. If a cop catches you, you are going to jail and who knows when you will get out. Go to Bourbon St. and you will be able to walk up and down for hours and see sights you won't see anywhere else. Have fun and be safe!

W would come just for the weekend before Fat Tuesday. Come on Friday and probably drive out on Sunday.

If we get something downtown will it be a huge cab fare to get to Bourbon street?

Nah it won't be much. Somewhere around 7-10 bucks. Its only a couple of blocks to Bourbon so most likely you can just walk.

I've been, used to live 1.5 hours from NO for a couple years. I don't see myself going back anytime soon (too crazy for me), but I think everybody should go at least once :)

My advice is either go all out and just stay down near Bourbon St, and be all in the mix....or stay in one of the nicer suburbs so you can go to some "calm" when you sleep.
