Default questions about some 243 heads

so i found some 243 cylinder heads a guy is selling and i'm wondering what all i should look at before buying them. also what is a decent amount to pay for a set of these used. was thinking of getting them to match the ms3 cam i will most likely be purchasingalong with a fast 90 intake for the setup. any thoughts on this? should i even bother with these heads? sorry for all the questions but if any of you guys have some answers to help me out that would be great.

btw i have 241 castings.
6 speed

243s will make more power than 241s. If you have them CNC'd, the 243s can make a lot more power.

If you buy, you should at least send them out for a valve job and seal check. Better yet, a full CNC and do not mill (for MS3 PTV).

look at the chambers to see if they are nicked up.pour some fluid down the ports to test the valve seat.check around the rocker arm mounts for cracks.get a valve job and seals and have the valve springs installed..is the ms3 cam a single or double spring set up?also consider the torquer v2 cam ,it should make more power under the curve and better with the gear spread of a m6.

I just waited and bought a GEN IV 5.3 that had the 243 heads on it, intake to oil pan for 400$, then you can sell everything else and basically get a set of 243s for free, not that it is as easily said than done though.

how much would a valve job and seals cost me? give or take? what are the specs on the v2. i would like a decent sized cam that will work well with the stock 241's in case i dont change the heads right away.

Seals are not expensive and a valve job is all labor. The problem with giving a number is that labor rates vary all over the place. I would call a few local shops and see what they would charge. Some large auto part stores can even arrange for a valve job on heads brought ot them. (I am assuming you would pull the heads yourself since shops charge several hundred for that chore.)
