Anyone run cheap Ebay connecting rods?
I dont want to hear "you get what you pay for".
Looking for anyone with REAL experience with these rods.
Any failures?
Who makes them?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...item3cadf13a42
Are most the rods , scat, eagle, these,... all made at the same place then just sold, machined and their own name put on them?
If you never ran them and dont know anything about them dont post your inexperienced advise in here based on the fact they are cheap.
Thanks.

Clearly they are getting these Private label (lack of markings). Could be from a number of different places. There are many off-shore operations, hard to tell! Then again its eBay, who knows if what is pictured is going to show up at your door!

Ive ran the stock rods to about 700whp and never had a prob. So if these Taiwanese cookie cutter rods are 10% stronger then I think at that price it is worth it. All the Scat, Eagle, H-beam rods advertise good to 700hp....so maybe an average of 600whp? Why so low of a rating? To cover their ***? and yet they want 500-600. Holy christ.
All the SBC rods are pretty cheap. But the LS1 rods seem to be double the price. Kind of stupid seeing they are almost identical.

? Quality along with MANY other factors, does in fact drive price. Cost of goods sold, material, labor, overhead and so on. Trust me, if we could manufacture a rod in house for the same price we sell Compstars at we would. BUT...For better steel, better labor practices, better bolts, better engineering, that all comes at a price! And at the end of the day, knowing you have a quality rod, better sleep as well! Nobody stated you need a better rod, and that's great your stock rods have survived. I am just defending what it takes to make a QUALITY rod!

I will say though, quality does not always drive price. Heck the MSD opti units are made in china by the same factory that makes the ebay optis. Not to mention there are some quality parts that were made in America, that are now made over seas out of cheaper materials, for a cheaper price, and sold for the same price as the older better part, to the consumer.
Best way to find out is to see if you can get a part number or manufacturer number from the people selling them. If you can get the number you can search some global whole sale sites and usually find the originating manufacturer.

I Know that happens for sure. That is why we do not HIDE the fact that Compstar is our off-shore brand, and it is in most cases 1/2 the cost of our Callies Brand. It all depends what you are trying to accomplish, the more power you make, you do need a better product, we can all agree on that.

Well I would like to know if you could test them and see if they are legit. It SAYS 4340 chromoly, now that doesnt mean that it actually is so I would want to see a machine shop or something test them. If they are legit and will hold good up to 800hp then I for sure would get some.
I think this is gonna be the same debate as the ebay headers. This is gonna go back and forth between the people who have and can afford the name brand stuff and the average people (like me) who cant.
The way I figure it if you could buy them and they would hold a little more power than the stock ones then they would be a nice set of rods to replace the stock ones with if you were an "average person" and had something unfortunate happen to your motor like a spun rod bearing or something.
Just my .02

Not sure I would trust a $37.50 rod myself...the real question would be what are your power goals then go from there.
I would tend to say the quality (material, tolerances ,etc) in an OEM might out weigh the supposed "better" material. It's not uncommon to hear that an OEM part can hold up to more power than intended..it's called a safety factor.
It's a cheap risk to buy these but not a cheap risk to see if they hold to some really good power (up towards 1000)

Thanks for the info but its rather irrelevant and lacking a solid backing.
