Tranny fluid smell leaking through Pro 5.0 shifter
I am getting the smell of tranny fluid coming up through my Pro 5.0 shifter. I suspect that there is also some fluid leaking through since the grease in the shifter itself is now black. Any suggestions? Should I repack the shifter with grease? What kind of grease is it? I tried to find the manufacturer online, but couldn't find it through the search engines. Thanks for any help.

Is your vent working propperly? If it is stopped up it will cause excess pressure inside the transmission and it will leak up through the shifter. If it is working propperly you might try to get some thin rubber sheeting and cut a 13mm-14mm hole in it to allow the shifter ball to pass through into the shifter block. Then set the shifter base in location, mark your bolt holes and punch them out. Bolt the shifter down and trim the excess off. This well keep fluild from splashing up onto the bottom of the shifter. Also if your fluid is black I would recommend changing it asap. Hope that helps you out.

I've ran into this problem before.
Believe it or not most oils have additives that also serve as a odor reducer.
( thats why 90W GL5 gear oil reeks!)
I run the same shifter, had the same problem running "bulk" froma 55 gallon drum ATF III.
It was a quality fluid, but it smelled once in the trans???
The vent was fine etc. I just went with another fluid from quart bottles= problem gone.

Thanks for all the suggestions. If anyone knows how to contact the Pro 5.0 manufacturer, I'd love to know. I have used this fluid before with no problems. I guess the next thing I'll try is repacking the grease in the shifter and see if that helps. I'm running out of ideas.
