Default fuel guage not working & trip odo resetting

car is a 99 m6 ta. stock everything except lid, ory, and flowmaster. fired up the car the other day and the needle on the fuel guage sits below E while the car is running and before starting.

the needle sweeps the guage on the initial key turn, but quickly falls to below E and does not move. the tank is now full of gas.

also the trip odometer starting resetting itself every time the car is turned off. i used the trip odo in place of the fuel guage for a week or two and now it won't work either. thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

well the gas gauge not working is probably in part to the float not working in the tank. As for the trip gauge resetting itself i have no idea. The only way to get to the float is to drop the tank, or do the easier method of cutting an access door.

The trip odometer resetting itself is a 99 only deal. It was a issue with the IPC. Only fix is to replace it. There was a bulletin about it. It only tends to do it in colder weather. I just deal with it

I was wondering why my trip kept resetting. Everytime I start it up when its cold, it resets. I was trying to keep records of my gas mileage but w/o a trip I lost track.

so you're saying the only thing to do is replace it?

hmm interesting. i've never heard of this. f replacing the cluster. i haven't driven the car in the winter for the past oh...7 years hahaha so i never noticed it. always removed the battery and expected to see the trip odo on 0 when i reinstalled it.

thx for the info, i will look into the trip reset and plan on pulling the pump. just noticed this is in the chassis section. doh.

replace the battery, the low battery and the cluster are a common problem, search for 1999 and battery and reset you should get lots of threads.
