Default What lifters to get?

I am building a 418 L92 motor and I have been doing research and some say LS7's will work and be ok and then there are some catastrophic failures with them. Morel's are a high price piece but I haven't heard any complaints about them. So, what lifters do I get for my motor?

The primary benefit of the Morels comes at high rpm operation, particularly sustained high rpm operation.

+3 on Morels!I know it will hurt buying $500+ lifters right now,but in the end, the piece of mind is worth it!!!

Well it looks like the Morels are going to be it then. As much money as I have spent so far I guess the lifters shouldn't be skimped out on either.

They are not as forgiving on preload as the LS7's so get as close to .030 as you can...

Thumbs up

Actually the Morels seem to run fine with anywhere from .030 -.080 preload from all we have run. The HTL or limited travel deals though can only go .030 or less and you usually need adjustable rockers to run them or it will be too hard to get the correct preload.

We usually keep all of the Morels in stock or at least try to. We have both the link bar and the oem style lifters and use both a lot. The Morel wheels, axles and bodies can take a lot more punishment than the OEM lifters can if it ever happens for sure but with good valvetrain the LS7s usually run well too.

Most of the lifter failures we see with the OEM lifters are from running extremely aggresive lobes with too little spring at higher rpm causing valve float and instability etc. Also some of the aftermarket heads feature larger and longer and almost always heavier valves which also can cause issues with the wrong valvetrain parts.

I also like running the largest pushrods you can in even the hydraulic roller stuff if possible or heavier wall 5/16 and 11/32 if you can't fit 3/8 or larger.

Well I will let you decide Erik. My cam is spec'd from Geoff@EPS on LSL lobes 24x/25x 61x/61x lift on a 114 and the heads have stock L92 valves with upgraded springs from PRC .650 max lift and I was going to use the stock rockers with the trunion upgrade.

Morels here!! Thick wall pushrods, Was going to use LS7's but figured 500.00 was cheap insurance after I spent all that money on heads and shortblock.. I will say that after we got the motor together, I was using Scorpion Rockers and had one snap at the cup.. The big thin that saved the motor was the Link bar Morels!!! Just installed Trunion upgrade on my stockers. Will be running N20 and spinning this bitch to at least 7000 if not 7200!!

It depends on how you set up the springs. Are you still using stock rockers? Thats a fastish lobe and a slightly heavy valve but not super heavy at 108-110g or so. The PRC 650 actually is still a pretty hoss spring. I think it tests a little stiffer than the specs say. I like the LSL with the actual LS3 valve but it's a little fast for the heavier L92 valve in my book although it will probably still run well.

Ok just saw you have stock rockers which are good for what you are doing but do not shim rocker stands at all just get right pushrod.

What is the difference between the limited travel .030 lifters and the HLT lifters?

WOW! CC performance charges an extra 100 bucks for the HLT option. But you're saying they're one in the same.
