Default Weird noise at idle...

I have a noise that appears to be coming somewhere from the driver's side rear of the top of the engine. The weird part is that it only happens at idle and it only happens randomly. After a few minutes the noise will stop. However, if I turn the car off then turn it back on, it sometimes comes back. Revving the engine makes the noise stop until it drops back to idle.

This is a vid I made of the noise (click image for vid to play). You can hear it after the revs drop back down (approx 7 second mark). Anyone have any ideas what this might be?

What is an AIR pump? What's it do, and is it necessary? I'll take a better video next time.

it pumps air to your cat so it can combust any fumes.

you can remove the air pump, its in a sticky. Cleans up the engine bay alot also. I removed mine, as long as you dont mind your exhaust smelling like fuel for the first 5min after startup. simply put it injects fresh air into your exhaust stream during starup to help your cats until they reach operating temp to help get rid of your Nox and CO

Is it the turbine sounding noise? (That's normal.) Does it go away when the car comes up to temperature?
