Default In need of help with some LQ4 questions

First off I hope I am putting in the right fourm.
I have a chance to buy a LQ4 with 317 heads out of a 2003 chevy van with 3000 miles on it. The motor would be going in a Jeep wrangler with turbo 350 for trans.

First. question is will a LS1,LS6 or Fast intake work on the motor, with LQ4 having the Chevy Van pulleys and brackets. I have heard they may be clearance issue.

Second. What kind of power could i see out of the motor if i just did a cam swap and intake.
I don t want to do anything more then that. it is only going in a Jeep.
The Jeep would be used for Daily driving in the summer and going to the dunes that is it.

Third. Should i just keep the truck intake on the LQ4 since it is for a Jeep not for drag racing.

Four. The Jeep already has a LS1 out of a 2000 camaro with about 52,000 miles on it. Did not know if the LQ4 is better to have.

Just want some more power. And don t have alot of money to get the power.

Thanks

thanks

I would not make the lq4 switch. Your ls1 is already more powerful than the lq9. If you are just looking for more power. Why not just a simple heads and cam swap. Some guys are getting 400 whp in f-bodys. The lq4 has dished pistons, and large chamber heads so being down on compression is not going to help you in any way. For what your trying to do it makes no sense. If you wanted you could leave the long block alone and blow a little boost in there with a tvs, edelbrock some kind of twin screw. Dont think Cam and intake could get you 40hp though. Good luck.

Also most guys are spend around 2000 to 2500 for cam swaps. Throw in a fast intake at throttle body you could buy a used supercharger for sure. ( thats what I would do)

I would do the swap. The lq4 should make morepower and torque.

A cam swap should make 350 or so at the crank. It is rated factory 300 so if you get a custom tune and a cam I can easily see 350.

Also the lq4 isn't much hevier and if you do continue to mod down the road it will make more power with each mod then the ls1 will.

If you spend $2000 on a cam swap you are a compleat retard!!!!! Cam swaps can easily be done under $1000 and usualy cost just over a $1000. Depends on if you do water pump, timing set, and any other small things wile you are in there.

I didnt pick those numbers out of thin air brotha. thats what most people were stating in the recent (what did you guys spend on a cam swap). You are correct most of them replaced supporting components as well.

Not sure why you think lq4 will make more power than an ls1 with mods down the road. The 317's may flow a little better than 241's but the lower compression is no benefit in a NA set up.

I haven't seen anyone say they spent $2000+ on a swap. Every thread I have seen is $1200-$1500 tops. Again that is laybor and extras in.

Seems pointless to pull out an LS1 and replace it with an LQ4. This is a lot of trouble to gain what- 18 cubic inches-? And the LS1 is all aluminum, versus an iron block with the LQ4. The weight gain will negate the gain of the few inches of displacement.

Hi,
the lq4 is 9.4:1 compression ratio/chamber volume 71.06cc/intake port volume 210cc/exhaust port volume 75cc/intake valve 2.00 in/exhaust 1.55 in/.these are ideal for turbo and blower cars/trucks. Changing heads to ls1 drops pressure to 9.1. I hope this helps and have a blessed day

I think the extra cube and better heads is good, more power.but I don't like the weight gain.if you do it keep the truck intake ,it works ok up to 5500rpms.consider comp cam 54-455-11 or 54-408-11.go to ls1howto.com for instruction if you do the cam swap your self.cam $400,push rods $100,springs $150-200.cam swap kit $50,mail order tune $125.you can sell the ls1 .

i purchased my lq4 for $750. did a complete tear down build up for $2600. if you do decide go with the lq4 everything off the front side of the motor from the ls1 will bolt up to the lq4.
