Question Prepare yourself!.. ...NEED HELP w/ my Hood.

This is just BAD. ... Looks like a ******* star chart was painted on my hood. ... Basically, the clear coat is gone in some spots but not in others. I'm trying not to burn through the paint while removing the clear but I feel like that's just wishful thinking at this point.

I've already used 600, 800 & 1000 grit to Wet-Sand. Thinking of going round 2 w/ wet sanding.

IVE NEVER done paint before. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dude your best bet is to have the hood sanded down and painted again, All the wetsanding in the world isnt going to help that.

At this point you'll be saving money because you wont be wasting it on polish and sand paper.

IDK man, im not a body guy, but I don't see any amount of sanding or buffing that will fix that. Im not sure if a body shop can take off the clear and then put on more clear? or if they need to strip and repaint the entire hood.

When your wet sanding now all you'll be doing is removing layers of the paint in the areas where the clear isn't covering and your going to be helping to strip off the clear in areas where its thin.

Long story! Haha!! ... FYI, when you take your car to a builder/shop. Make sure he/they use(s) a car cover or you give him yours to use with your car. ... This happened awhile back but it got worse and worse as time went by. Once moisture get under the clear, it spreads like a disease!

U could have a body paint that for like $400.... I called and asked about how much it'd cost to paint a hood and fit it and they said $350-$500 depending on how much work it needs. Then o told em
It'd b a new hood (I want a ws6) and the guy was like o then ur lookin at closer to $350... And this is from a reputible body shop. Good luck

I would say 220 grit. That will take the clear and the paint off. 320 if you dont wanna go that deep. It just depends on how level it is now. But a shop would be a good idea too, because they will warrenty their work.

mine was starting to do the same thing as the OP's hood. I did not let it get near that bad, and got mine completely redone for $300, so the price mentioned above is in the ballpark of what you should pay.....

K,... I'll give it another shot later with some 220 or 320 later. Thanks!
