So I tried to search and wasn't able to come up with much, I am wondering what one of these aluminum blocks can handle horsepower wise? Also what is an aluminum 5.3 block worth?

Are you talking about a short block, block itself, long block or complete pull out? The aluminum 5.3 is a lower production unit then the cast iron so I would consider it A. Harder to come across and B. Worth more. A buddy just bought a block with rotating assembly, still assembled, no covers, no heads, no accs (block, crank, rods, pistons only) for $400 and it was the 07 with flat top pistons. I thought that was a fair deal. I have seen cast iron 5.3 long blocks go for $500 and complete pullouts go for $750. I assume strength is equal to the other aluminum blocks which you will get different figures for depending on who you ask.

In a needs a rebuild type of condition? I would say $2-300, Especially if it included the rotating assembly. Block only couldnt be worth more then $100 and thats not far from scrap price.
