TSP 228R After Tune!
I had my 02 Z06 Dyno'd Tuned today by Jack at HorsePower Logic in Royal Palm Beach, FL. I installed the Texas Speed 228R @ 112 LSA and new valve springs. I only have shortie headers and stock cat's and stock H pipe. Exhaust upgrades are next on the list. I drove the car just a couple of times over the week end just let it have a couple of heat cycles then today to the Tuner. Jack used HPtuners on my car. First pull was a crappy 330hp, the final pull on his Mustang Dyno was 429HP and 377lbs torque. I was very happy with the final pull. Here's the video clip:

Solid numbers especially with shorty headers! I am curious to see how much power you would pick up by going to a longtube header and a 3" x-pipe. How is the driveability with the cam? I bet in a car like that it drives pretty nice. We are glad to hear you are happy with the setup!

Since no one else will say it, I will. Your numbers are too high. Mustang Dyno Tech Support says that on a properly set up Mustang Dyno you can multiply the loaded HP number by 1.14 and that should be a reasonably close estimate on what the same vehicle would make on a Dynojet. So by that your car should make 489 RWHP on a Dynojet. Anyone think that is right? My guess is they fudged either the weight of the drums, the proper vehicle weight, HP@50 or didn't turn the load on. I tune on Mustang dynos and have seen how manipulating those values can make them read about whatever you want.

Far from me to say anyone's wrong. But the first pass was 330 HP. By the time he was done just the sound of the motor was remarkable different, sounded far stronger. No one was trying to be impressed at the tune. I sure put no pressure on the kid. I also have a brand new clutch, trans and TT couplings and a set of new Michelin's.

SAE numbers where motor eats -20* air but the computers sees 80*
i have seen stranger things tho.

You do have the stock 243s on your Z correct? That would account for some of the higher then normal readings. I honestly would expect about 415 or so from that combo. 400 from the cam, maybe another 15 from the heads. Not sure how bad the shorties would effect my estimate.

That is rather high.. With my mods in sig on a mustang dyno I put down 412hp/386tq. Dynojet but reading in SAE smoothing 5 which reads lower, put down 390/370. To basically gain 100rwhp from a tune..just doesn't make sense.. I would check what it traps at the track to see how accurate that is, I trap between 114-117 and it reflects my power pretty accurately.
To even dyno 330rwhp with a 228r cam just makes no sense, even untunned I was still around 370 and I have a full exhaust also. Kinda makes me wonder if the tuner didn't mess around with the dyno settings in order to make it read higher then it actually was just so in your eyes you gained 100rwhp from a dyno tune. lol, Not trying to be a downer, it just seems really off for those mods. Yes also, you would put down around 450-470rwhp on a normal dynojet usually which def doesn't sound right but oh well.

I guess I should have know better to post this info. With a stock Z06 at 405, plus everyone will say you can get 15 to 20 with a tune, plus the CAI another 5, Borla a few more, plus the cam. I sent a link to this thread to my tuner, I'm sure he will be happy to read it. You know it's just a couple of twenty something kids renting a building, starting a business, paying wages and buying a mustang dyno. I know what I saw and heard. Before he was done there were 5 or 6 guys there and everyone had wide eyes with the last two pulls. If his dyno reads a couple of HP too high, maybe they never should have bought the dyno and started a business. Were lucky here to have Moroso racetrack in our area, they had a few trophies from there. At least it was 80 deg here today and were still hot rodding around.

Like I said, go to the track and see what it does. 405hp is flywheel as stated above, it's more like 350-360rwhp stock. We are not saying the car isn't making good power, were just saying you don't gain 100rwhp from a tune with just a cam. Just doesn't happen. Just like 330rwhp seems way off for a stock z06 to begin with, you should be around 350-360rwhp stock, so I'm not sure how you would go DOWN in power from adding a cam aha.
Since you already have 243 heads, you should be around 400rwhp with that cam anyways. Just seems like it's reading a little high being as you still have shorties and everything also yet.

I totally agree. The real purpose of a dyno is that it's a tuning tool,but to many guy's get wrapped up in the HP/TQ numbers so a lot of tuning shops compete to impress the customer by generating unrealistic numbers.
OP, I'm not knocking your performance improvements with the addition of that cam,no doubt your engine is generating a nice HP/TQ gain,but there comes a time when being knowledgeable (realistic) about data presented takes precedence over one's ego.
