Default texas speed or thunder racing?

trying to decide on a cam for an 05 regular cab short bed pick up. motor will be a 6.0 lq4 that is going to be cam/bolt ons only, not doing any head work. i "think" i have narrowed down my choices to the 228r on a 110lsa from tsp. and the 230 reverse split from tr. the truck will have a 3000 stall and will eventually get 4.10s has 3.42s now. not going to be a race truck, just a fun daily driver. are these two cams close or should i be looking at different specs altogether?

i know, the more i try to research the worse it gets. i was down to tsp or tr due to the fact that they had the same pricing on their cam kits.

either of those choices sound ideal for what you want

I have a copy of the TR230 in my car and it has a lot of grunt all over and really comes alive above 3500-4000 rpm. If you go with a reverse split though you better have longtubes, true duals (2.5" pipe or bigger), and free flowing mufflers. It needs to breathe well.

Like thunderstruck507 said.
Either one of those cams would be ideal for what you're shooting for.

Go with a custom grind. I think TSP and Thunder both do custom grinds. You wont regret it.

i thought about going custom grind, but with tsp or tr do they pick out the specs or do i give them the specs that i want? also is it any more difficult for a tuner (mail order) to get it right with a custom tune? thanks

Custom through TR!! I have found that they seem to have a bit more technology for power under the curve. Most/all of the TSP cams I've seen are all high RPM power and not much down low. I've driven an MS4 and didn't care for it. I'll take my TR ground PatG cam any day over that big bear.

PatG churns out some great cams. He works with TR. Mine drives very smooth, but rips when you stab it and just keeps pulling. about 1800 - redline (mine made power up to 6600 and they cut the reading.) 1500 is bogging it, but it will pull through it (I don't floor it under 2200). Very little cam surge with stock gears unless you're trying to creep doing 5mph in first. GREAT around town!

i have a TR224 in my rockcrawler and a TSP228r in my ta and both are great cams and both companies were good to deal with. i would say you would not go wrong with either one.

the only regret i have is on my ta i wish now i would have went with a bigger cam

I currently have the TSP-MS3 cam and it's a beast through mid-high rpm range.. Picks up alot from 2700-6800rpms.. Ofcourse it's your preference on either one. The MS3 CSM package I bought came with PRC platinum double valve springs (.650) and Hardened/forged pushrods. I got standard length 7.400 cause I'm still on stock rocker arms. I have nothing but impressive results so far with my MS3 cam and LS6 Intake being the only mods with stock Heads/MAF/TB

I love my setup, it's the 228R on 110 LSA like your looking at. Here is a couple videos both with the cutout open.

The Reverse Split cam is a nice choice. It make really nice midrange power and torque especially in a 6.0L. I see in the email you do have the longtubes on the truck and a stall, so you should be good to go with that camshaft!!!!

TR definitely. The 230/224 has great driveability and low end while still cranking out nice power in the upper revs. I pick up 28mph on the big end with it and stock 243 heads.
