I am currently unemployed, most boring thing in life EVER.
I have tried applying everywhere, within my current field of study (IT) and out of my field. I currently have decided that instead of being laid off more while waiting for a job in the networking industry I would take up a job possibly doing oil changes and whatnot at the local lube shop. I applied to at least 4 and none have replied and it's been a month... How can you not hire me when the only job duties described were oil change experience and a high school diploma? Are you kidding? I can do an oil change on my Firebird in like 10 minutes if that. :eyes:

its not what ya know but who ya know
Making bad first impressions maybe? Or maybe it's your attitude that you're too good for the job right off the bat....

Many companies are being "picky" and choosing candidates with higher educations due to the poor economy - they can, which sucks for alot of people.

Did you call and bug them to show intrest in trying to get the job or just drop off an app. Alot of employers want people that want the job, not just a body taking up space. Just my .02

This economy is a killer. . . . My last job paid me 25 per hour, they took us down to 22.
Now, I am jobless and have been for over six months.
The best offer I have had was for pretty much the same job I was doing just even more high scale. . . . . They offered me 10 Dollars per hour. . . Really, no joke.
I am still unemployed. . . . . . :(

Over qualified just seems odd to me. . . . Why would I company not want to hire a person with the most qualifications?

Because thats going to be the first person to jump ship when a job in his field becomes available.

I know how it goes. In 5 years my job has dropped me $8 an hour.
So i decided the best thing is...start my own company.

What do you do for a living?? Curious.
Edit: Cable guy.......do you think $20+ an hour is appropriate for a "cable guy"?

Don't do it anymore. . . .
When I say cable guy, no. . . 20 + Bucks an hour sounds like a lot.
When you do it, you think it's not enough.
I was in attics for hours at times(I live in AZ). I been it attics when it's a 160 degrees inside.
It was a damn decent job for the pay though. . . . Until the management got worse then the work I did.

It is rough now.. sorry for the tough break..just keep your head up man..something will come along.
i would say consider relocating or look into contract work overseas.

X2^^^ The contractors here with us make 5x's as much as we do. For example, I'm an E5, with dependants, working as a network manager (25N) for the Army while there's a civilian team here who's generator mechanic makes $180,000 a year...It's INSANE!

Anything less than 6 figures isn't enough in my opinion to be in 160 degree attics for hours at a time
