Default cold weather rough start up

i bought a firebird formula about 2 weeks ago. a 1999. its ran perdecr up until this morning i went to start it in 0 degree weather and the first two times i started it , it hesitated then died. the third time i got it started and it blew white smoke for a minute . is this normal ? im not sure what oil is in it, could it be oil that isnt light enough at cold temp ?

You should switch to synthetic oil, it doesn't get thick in cold weather so the motor cranks over easier. As for the white smoke, it's probably condensation since it went away after a minute. Since you just bought it you have no idea how long the plugs/wires and air filter have been in the car. I suggest changing those parts then cleaning the throttle body and MAF with MAF cleaner. Also dump some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank when you fill it up.

Doesn't mean to hijack the thread but, does fuel injector cleaner really work?

Yes it does, I add it to all my cars every oil change and I never had a clogged fuel injector.

Hi,
the above post will be most helpful for you..... Perhaps a little moisture in the tank????????????i would use the cleaner and lucas upper cylinder products. A bottle or two of fuel moisture remover may not hurt either.good luck and have a blessed sunday......captain jim

Fuel filter is my guess! mine did that for a while. cycle the key a few times before you start it see if it makes a difference.
