Looking really good so far. I love the way you did the cowl. Thats exactly how I think I am going to do mine. What gauge steel did you use? Keep the photos comming!

02-13-2011, 10:13 PM
thanks the cowl turned out decent....i believe it was 22ga i got it at lowes our lowes has a decent selection of metal the local metal supplier would only sell me a 4x4 sheet and i didnt need that much.

02-13-2011, 10:16 PM
Cool. I will take a ride over there tomorrow and check out my stores selection...

02-14-2011, 11:26 AM
Do you happen to have the part number for that distributor? Does this setup require any special gear on the dizzy?

02-14-2011, 01:44 PM
not off the top of my head at work now but i will snap a pic of it this evening and post it is for a small block ford 302 i do know that

Perfect, that explains enough. I know it calls for a small block ford dizzy but I wasnt sure whether or not it was for a 302 or 351 since they have different deck height.

...last question....for now lol....

I started cutting out my cowl today, and I was comparing the way I am doing it too yours. My question is...when you welded the new flat panel back in on the firewall, did you weld it above or below the stock seam? I dont have a photo handy because I just got to work, but like about an 1" above the HVAC cut-out all across the firewall there is a body seam. I guess I am asking did you cut above this seam or right on it to weld your new piece in?

If you have a photo of just the opening from when you cut, that would be perfect!

nice i cant wait to see more pix!

02-14-2011, 05:49 PM
here is the part number 685_n.jpg

the way i did mine was about 1/2 to 1 inch above the bend behind the cowl the only issue i ran into was when welding neer the factory body seam the sealer was heating up and causing my weld to become contaminated....doesnt hurt anything but does make the weld ugly

sweet buid, looks good! Like the radaitor mount, exactely how i did mine, lol. Will the crossover being plumbed into the WP neck work like that?? If so im stealing that idea!

03-24-2011, 07:41 AM
i dont see really no reason why it wont it seems like alot of swap guys are plumbing it directly into the front of the wp or into there thermostat housing. My buddy has his plumbed into his waterpump, ls1 in an s10, and has been running it for years. I am sure there is better ways to do it, but its a steam port and as long as steam can escape i see no issues. Ive actually been meaning to pm u about ur gas tank...i have the same one how is that tank on fill ups. R u using factory intank pump.

Well if that works like that then im gonna run mine like that. I was tryin to find a way around using the hose to the radiator n this should be it! Haven't filled the tank yet, not using stock style pumps, got a a1000 mounted to my frame rail. Still using stock sending unit though in-tank, just not the pump

What are you going to ise for an ign system? I assume it will be set up like a regular sbc, digital 7 box and that's it yes?

If so please keep us posted as to how it works out for ya... really want some more info on doing this one.

03-24-2011, 04:52 PM
ya will do im using a mallory ignition box ...i like th mallory box cause it all built into it no laptop needed i can change my rev limit on the go plus it has built in 2step hich i believe the msd does also.....the mallory box also has several output features like nitrous on/off windows which i will wire up for the it all in one clean module instead of several link together.....the plan at least.......thanks for the info on fill ups was just wondering using an external pump for my carb setup.. i as just debating on a 7.5 gallon unit in the t-top well from motive or that company ive seen on here lately but dont ant to have to run a bulkhead back there to meet track requirments...also i like were my nitrous and battery is located....
