Default Need advice with spark plugs

I am changing my spark plugs and am having the usual problem with #8. I cannot get the wire boot off the spark plug, and I am out of ideas. I called a dealer and they want $110 just to do one plug. I have the other seven plugs changed already, so I only have #8 left. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jack it up , go from bottom of car. Only way i could get to mine. You will have some cuts and bruises.

Or as i read in another thread. Pull your coils off, AIR , and it should be easier from top if you cant get underneath it. But your best bet is to lift it a few foot off the ground where you can lay comfortably underneath and position yourself.

Is there a special tool to grab that boot with? I know I sound like a big wuss here, but I pulled on that thing for like an hour and nothing! I'm worried if I pull on the wire part and destroy it I won't have the option of driving it to the shop if that's how this goes.

They sell spark plug boot pliers, but on your number 8 cylinder I think its impossible. You need to get under your car, and with a pair of pliers grab the boot and try sliding it off. Dont use to much force.

Yea spark plug boot pullers suck ***.. Or at least mine did. When I changed my plugs for first time last year (went out with WOT pulls ) It seemed like they were caked on there. Tugged and tugged with the puller and it eventually ate up the rubber on the ends. Best bet is to go from below and give it all you got.

i think its easier to get it from the top if you take off the coil pack you can easily get your hand down there to pull on it. I just recently did it this way and only took 45 minutes and that includes gapping the plugs

Well I guess I'll have to toughen up and go for it. I've read a lot about doing plugs before I tried, and now I know that #8 sucks big time. Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.

Heh. I remembered what a PITA LS1 F-body pulgs are yesterday when I started changing them. Did the driver's side 1st from the top as a warm-up and will do the dreaded passenger side from the bottom this weekend. It is a challenge, but just be patient and you'll get it done.

you can get to it from the bottom but if you remove the coil packs it makes it easier from the top. be prepared for some cuts along the way maybe a little blood.

Good News! I finally got it from the top. I can't say what I did any different but it finally gave with no tools. Changed plug afterward in about 15 mins. So I would have to agree just keep trying and it will eventually come. Also, I did not remove any coil packs, just the AIR tube. So it can be done. Good luck to all the others!

Yes I did. Waiting on a set msd wires so I'll have to wait to see if it still runs though. And I know to put dielectric grease on the plugs too. On the other hand, I am never going to put plugs in this car again so if I hadn't......haha
