are you sure its only going into 1st and 2nd not 2nd and 3rd? makes a difference because you have a 1-2 shift solenoid and a 3-4 shift solenoid. if you only have 1-2 id look at the 3-4 solenoid, but if you actually have 2-3 it could be a number of things. might want to move this to the automatic tranny section...just a thought. either way i'll subscribe and see if i can help. i gotta pretty good trans guy i use.

definitely only has 2nd and 3rd. 1st gear would maybe go to 25 at 4000-4500. could be a number of things. 2nd and 3rd is a limp mode. disconnect the battery cable for 30-45 mins and see what it does. check the fluid level at operating temp with the parking brake set and trans in nuetral. smell fluid and look at color. good fluid stinks but you should be able to smell if its burnt. dirty brown color indicates old fluid/slipping trans. check big connector on right side of trans above oil pan rail for proper connections. maybe disconnect it and check for loose or broken wires.

It is a 93 guys so no shift solenoids or limp mode or any of that happy 60e horse ****.
Pull the dipstick and catch a whif. If it smells like fried ***, the 3-4 clutch pack is smoked and it is time for an overhaul. If it happens to also have no reverse, the reaction sun shell broke. That is inside also but wouldn't require a complete overhaul.

Your cheapest fix s to do it right and drop it off somewhere that knows what your car is and what trans it has.. as you will likely FAIL at fixing it yourself
There is no cheap right way to fix your (Formula)'s trans if clutches or sun shell is roasted
