Multimedia Exchange - 280 Foot Plus Wheel Stand on a Small Shot of Nitrous

We went to Darlington, SC on Saturday 2/12/11 and had a blast! Car ran its best ever NA run of 10.47 ET at 127.19 MPH on its fifth run of the day. I then put the nitrous bottle in it and changed the tune. I had also installed a FJO controller that I was looking forward to playing with. I Locked down the front end and went up for a pass and came away with this video! Let me say right off that it was no fun and actually happened before I could even react!

When the car came down it did not seem to land very hard and was still going straight so since I was on the gas as it was coming down I stayed in it and ran a 10.18 ET at 132.39 MPH! I went back to my pit and checked everything over. Marked the back bumper, front bumper and scraped the headers just a little bit. Everything looked OK so I went out and made another NA pass just to see how the car ran and it ran a 1.41 60' foot with a 10.63 ET at 125.24 MPH with the front end locked down so it seems to be OK.

Actually once it started up I grabbed second and then went to third gear to try and kill the torque but it was to late!!

It was not fun! The engine is a mild pump gas 346 CI and that was a 125 HP dry nitrous shot at the air lid!

There was a lot of folks there only one other F-body was racing though. Of course DBN was there showing us all how to run 9.60’s NA in his C5.

Based on the way the car seemed to not want to come down at all I am sure it would have stayed up longer.

That is a great idea. I am just glad the wife had the video out and was recording that pass. It was not expected and the end result could have been much worse, but it does make for a good video!

Much respect for staying in it! I can totally understand how scary that is. Lift is one thing, a wheelie is another.

Guys, just keep in mind that you're staring at the sky, you can't steer, and there's a split second when you're praying that you land straight. You're blessed that one of your rear wheels didn't hop.

You are correct it went from setting on all 4 tires to dragging the bumper in no time! I grabbed 2nd gear and then went straight to 3rd gear to no avail and could only see the sky and the centerline of the track. I focused on keeping the steering wheel straight and as the car started coming down I stomped on the go pedal to help soften the landing as much as I could!

I hope it is the only time I ever experience that feeling! When it finally started to come down I focused on keeping the steering wheel straight and mashed the go pedal through the floor to help soften the landing. The 1/8 mile time was 6.45 ET @ 107.82 MPH.

It was a ride I will not forget for some time to come for sure! I was hoping it would start dropping after shifting into 3rd gear but it did not so I finally had to let off the gas and then get back into as it started dropping!

Well I have done it once and that is all I want!! The car is a 346 CI LS pump gas engine, 11 to 1 compression, bolt ons, TH400 and 9-inch with 4.11 gears! You can see all the details in the racing department under the 10-second club section under my thread call Good 3,000 RPM launch!

I thought about that in that half second I had but did not want to take a chance on it pulling right or left! I bet it would have gone the 1/8 mile if I would have done that!! Limiters are already on there and on that pass they were set to allow 2.5 inches of travel. I just plain missed the setup on the nitrous pass.
