Default What are good choices for a mild cam?

what would be a good choice for a cam to put in my 2000 M6 camaro ss?
it has a newly built ls1 in it, brand spankin new. has about 1,000 miles. i am looking for something that will give me more power but still reliable, it being a daily driven car. built tranny and rear end, jus want a nice solid mild cam to give that little extra umph in it. and be good on a cold weather start, because of living in bipolar west texas weather. i dont know if im asking to much but will greatly appreciate any advice given.

I have a 228r cam. 228/228 114 lsa with a .588 lift on my TA. Its my DD here in south texas. Its a great cam for a DD. If you want something smaller maybe a 224 would be better the 228 is the next step up. I love it as a dd.

If it is a M6, I would throw a 228R cam in it. It will give you a noticeable idle but not anything overly aggressive. With a tune it will drive like stock though while adding a solid 40+ RWHP with supporting mods. For a DD car, this is by far the most popular cam we recommend. If your car is an A4, it will require a small converter.

I agree with the above. A 224-228ish/112-115ish cam would be fine with some good tuning.

First off, the auto is going to need a stall with any decent sized cam. Keep that in mind. Either a 228R or an EPS cam would get my vote.

Hmm because I was thinking a 228R but wasn't sure how much I would get out of it. Since my engine is basically brand new would it be best to go ahead and replace the whole valvetrain also? I jus know maintenance on vehicles in stuff, jus not the internal parts haha.

Going to need springs to match the new cam, and pushrods at the least. If you haven't upgraded the timing chain and oil pump with your newly rebuilt engine, you'll want those too.

TSP sells a cam kit on their website with everything you'd need.

I'd go with the 228r or 233 myself.

If everything is new on the motor, the pump is probably fine. I would probably put a LS2 chain on if it doesn't already have one on it. Being that it is a new crate engine, it probably does. Definitely put some springs and pushrods with the cam. The factory parts won't support it. You might want to replace the gaskets. If it motor is brand new, you can probably get by with reusing them if you like.

Let me know what you think. We keep everything for this in stock and we are in west Texas as well so it would be easy to get things to you in a hurry. We are just southwest of Lubbock, TX. You can also give me a call here at the shop 806.866.0734.

I would go bigger than a 228R honestly.. The 228R is a very popular choice and good all around cam, but i would step up to atleast a bit more cam, something like the TSP Torquer 2 232/234, or even a Speed Inc 231/237.

if your worried about drivability I wouldnt be...Id honestly go with a ms3 from TSP or RAPTR cam from TR....they are a little big but both very streetable and will give you good numbers throughout your RPM range

^^^ I dont know about cams for nitrous, but for the op, I would go bigger than a 228. I was about to do a 228r, and the shop talked me into a 233/239. I am so glad I did. Sounds super nasty at idle, and drives great around town. At least it did until it ripped my stock clutch to pieces! Monster stg 3/tick master bout to go in....

The drivability is all in the tune, tuned correctly any but the biggest of cams can be tamed for street driving...

Exactly!!! For all the time and effort and money spent on installing a cam, i would go atleast somewhat bigger. Atleast the 233/239 or 231/237 for sure.
