Default pre-85 sbc with lt1 t56 questions

hey guys,
im new to the forums and i was wondering you you guys could help me out. i have a pre-1985 350sbc with a lt1 t56 transmission that im in the process of installing. i have everything i need from pedal, hydraulics, driveshaft, crossmember, bellhousing, new hays clutch/pressure plate/throwout etc. the only thing that is holding me up is the flywheel. its a specific flywheel that mates the early sbc to the lt1 t56. my question is what is so different from any other flywheel? and does anyone have a used one laying around!? here are the part numbers from various companies..

The LT1 uses a pull-style clutch and a 10.5" flywheel to fit in the shallow bellhousing and the flywheel is custom for that. Since it wasn't OEM with a 2pc RMS motor, the aftermarket conversion flywheels are pricey.

yea from what i researched i saw that , unfortunatley i used most of my money for all the parts i have lol and that aftermarket flywheel is really pricey like you said.i read over on camaros.net that some guy made a lt1 t56 work with a 1969 camaro z28 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate and no special parts. i messaged him to try and see how he did it.

85-down are 3.58" bolt pattern to the crank and neutral balance.
86-up are 3.00" bolt pattern to the crank and balanced to work with any one-piece seal L98 LT1 LT4 etc.

The Valeo pull style pressure plate, the p.p. does not allow much room for the clutch disc hub assembly which is normally to the rear of the car. The 89-96 Vette solution for this was a sprung hub flywheel and solid hub disc. The 93-97 F-body has the sprung hub forward on the disc and thus, the direction of sprung travel is backwards (compared to an otherwise nearly identical but slightly smaller 26 spline disc from a 92 V8 Camaro for example.)

The overall input shaft and bearing sleeve length of the LT1 T56 is extremely close to those of a T5. To run a 26 spline 10.5" push clutch and standard flywheel you need a fabricated ballstud added to the LT1 T56, a fork opening cut-out and a solution for the throwout bearing i.d. This is due to the i.d. on a T5 piece being of larger o.d. than the LT1 T56 bearing. This is all do-able at the standard nearly-parallel fork angle in a 69 Camaro or the angle used in the 78-up A/G and 82-up F body mechanical linkage cars.

BTDT, get the aftermarket flywheel. :yup:
