I have a large shop and would like to buy a lift. I have a C5 Z06 and a C10 pickup. I dont understand the difference between asymetric and symetric lifts.... Anyone have recomendations?
Thanks!

asemtric is easier to get in and out of the car. I hate it when the post is in the way and you cant open the door.

I have a 10,000lb BEND-PAK asymmetric lift at my house...absolutely LOVE it...it's been installed for about 5 years now with absolutely no problems. I believe I got it through Northern Tool.
EDIT:: Found it: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200329503_200329503
Be sure you have atleast 6" of concrete underneath.
Here's a shot of it with my old truck:

Thats the Bend-Pak me and a friend are getting for our garage. Seen a couple here in town, they're great for door clearance.

Any shop owners running a set that insurance works with? Some of the cheaper ones can't be insured apparently

WOW nice place man. One day I will get a place like that. Yeah 6inches is a min the ones at the place I rent a spot from are a foot but thats a little overkill if you ask me. We also have the same hoists as in the pics and they work best as far as im concerned. Did you look into local auctions for a good use lift as I know once every couple months they have an auction around here of automotive lifts and tons of other shop stuff. Maybe get a good deal on a used one.

I have a Bendpak. Works great. 4 inch min on the concrete (up to 10,000#) as long as it is crack free. 12,000# lifts require 6 inch's of concrete.

I've got a Mohawk A-7. Picks up my C5 like it's a toy. I have 6+ inches of 4000PSI concrete with the fiberglass and rebar reinforcement.
It's been 10 years with no problems.

Second on the Rotary. Those China made Directs and Bendpak's are ok if you don't have to work under it every day loaded to what THEY rate them at.

I use a rotary asymmetric at work and love it, if you got the money that's what I recommend

Symetrical if you are going to lift anything over 1500 series. asymetrical for small vehicles.

I think that both bend-pak and rotary are both very nice lifts, my dad found this when he was searching. Although it appears to be from Bend-pak it is a good comparison of the two lifts.
