just the stick...
The way i see it, they had to grind down one side or the other to separate the lobes wish means less duration and so less power, a call to comp, or any other cam expert will shed more light on this...

You must be talking about another Dave's Total Performance in Millford. My experience with Dave is completely different. Either he has no technical competance working on LSX cars or he just doesn't give a crap. Quotes low prices and then blames his shabby (extremely inferior) worksmanship on the fact that he didn't charge appropriately. Strongly recommend avoiding this shop like the plague as they take no pride in worksmanship. I'm not the only forum member to have this experience. This shop doesn't even have a dyno on hand.

This is not the case.
If someone is going through the trouble to close the LSA, they are most likely not going to REDUCE duration or lift as this is obviously counter productive.
Instead what they will do, is they grind down the base circle on the cam. This in turn gives you MORE lift and duration. From there they can grind away and make the lift, duration and LSA what they want it to be... within reason. The more you take off of the base circle, the more "meat" you have to work with on the lobes for the regrind. Taking too much off of the base circle though can be a bad thing. Too deep and you can go through the hardened surface of the lobe. This requires re hardening.
Also, the more you take off of the base circle, the more a hydraulic lifter has to compensate with that loss of material. A hydraulic lifter can only compensate so much. LSX series engines are lucky in this area because... there are aftermarket push rods available to take up this extra slack if needed.
If you wanted to find out what lift and duration you actually have, you can measure it yourself. You don't even have to take the came out of the car. All you need is a dial indicator capable of up to 1.000" of travel, a degree wheel and a TDC finder. You can make the TDC finder. I guess, technically you don't even need the TDC finder.
EDIT: Realized you said that you JUST bought the cam off of someone. Indicating that the cam IS NOT installed yet. Since that is the case, you would have to get creative with the tools mentioned above. Probably better to just send it it LOL. Or put it in the car and then measure it. That would suck if it turned out to be not what you wanted as far as specs go though.

I am warning you of Daves total Performance in Milford is very dishonest. I paid $1000.00 for an installed Precision torque converter and when it went bad i removed it and it was an Old TCI torque converter that he had painted pink and sent me a text picture of it to make me believe it was a Precision 4000 converter. I gave him every opportunity to make it right and he said he wouldnt. I have checked around and have heard several bad stories of the poor work that has been performed here. Be warned and check your torque converter to see if he didn't do it to you as well. Stay far away from this guy.

actually you can't change the LSA on a cam regrinding it.never buy a reground cam,you will end up with more problems and repair cost.for the finale repair bill cost you could have bought a custom EPS cam pkg .

I agree !!! Daves Total Performance is a shop to be avoided. "F" grade with BBB. Complaints on file with Ohio Attorney General and pending court cases due to his poor workmanship. Unfortunately I have first hand experience.
:ripped:
I thought Lsa was definite....it can never be changed....you can change the lift. and slightly the lobe separation
