Default Stall thread x2389834

Heres my dillema guys, my ls1 is sitting right around 120k this sumer I plan to either do 1 of two things. My first option is take my ls1 and do a complete ls6 swap. Ive already got the shortblock i just need to buy the 243 heads and the 02-up cam. Second option is to put some cheap stock 241 heads on it and use the existing 01 cam thats in there and do a stall.. Particulate this one http://www.circledspecialties.com/p-...converter.aspx or this one http://www.circledspecialties.com/p-...converter.aspx the 278 will be a 3200 while the 258 will be a 3400. I went with the 258 over the 245 mm stall because I'm told it will drive a little tighter. Anyway I know hwy mpg will not change with the converter but with gas doing what it is doing i dont wanna jump into anything that is gonna kill me mpg wise especially since i go to college and money is a concern when in school. Over the summer ill have plenty of cash to do these swaps but when i get back into school my spare cash cant all go to gas. I can only do one of these swaps because I need to save money from work for school the following year trying to be responsible ya know lol. My friend on here is redbird555 and he is also on the fence about doing the same thing so maybe you all can help. Will the ls6 tank the mpg's in the city like a stall will and also on the hwy?
Thanks for all the help guys

Honestly, with a larger stall you just need to maintain lock-up if at all possible to help retain factory gas mileage. Avoid heavy traffic and streets with lots of red-lights. Choose interstates or open roads if at all possible. Staying under 45 and accelerating and stopping is gonna beat up gas mileage. But if your motor is basically stock and tuned up properly, and you choose your routes and times better, the decrease in mileage may not even be noticeable. Add in H/C, tune, gears and a 4k converter and you can literally watch your gas needle fall. It would drive you insane if you let it. I just look at all the other gauges instead

Correct! I have heads, cam, stall, and gears and i'm positive my city mpg is in the single digits.

Lol thanks guys unfortunately we both live in a college town And plagued with red lights but I get what ur saying I told him to have it lock up at 35 to help out a bit. His car has 3.42s so that should help also. General consensus us tho that a stall would be better performance wise/fuel economy than an ls6 swap?
