Default LS7 head gasket on LS2 block?

I know some have reported problems using this gasket on the Gen III iron block 6.0L due to the coolant passages, but it seems like they will work fine on an LS2 block due to the siamese bores of the GEN IV blocks. Looking for a cheap solution compared to cometic gaskets for my AFR headed LS2.

Why should you use anything bigger than OEM LS2 gaskets unless you have a bigger bore like 4.03"? But then, you can use LS3 gaskets. LS7 = BS on ls2 engine.

I have AFR heads that require a minimum 4.135 bore gasket and maximum of 4.165. The LS7 falls right in that range at 4.150 and is a cheaper MLS option then cometic and is the compressed thickness I am looking for at .052

If they require 4.135 bore gasket, than the require 4.125 cylinder bore...

but you have ls2 with 4.00. Dont you find any absurd here??

I've just personally received my AFR 230v2 small bore. And their chamber diameter is 3.9ish. OEM ls2 will work PERFECT with them.

Patrick G on his G8 with 4.00 bore BUT with large bore AFR230v2 (that require minimum 4.00 bore) also used stock ls2 gaskets.

Just going off what Tony Mamo told me when he modified the heads for me. So you are saying I should use an LS2 gasket even if the chamber is larger then the gasket bore?

The heads were "Mamofied" and this is what Tony told me. The AFR catalog suggests a 4.135 gasket for the 230 head too.

Go with what Tony said. You dont want any part of the gaskest hanging in the chamber so if the ls7 clears,I think your good to go.

ls7 gasket is too large for ls2 bore.

MAX you want is ls3 gasket.

Go with the larger gasket...as has been said you do not want gasket projecting beyond combustion chamber.

depends if he use small or large bore variant.

as I said small bore 230v2 have <4.00" chamber -> I will use om ls2 gaskets.

The heads are actually 205's with the chamber opened up for a 4.00" bore. I will probably just use the LS2 gasket, because after more inspection I think I pushed some water with the 4.130 gasket I have on there now.

FWIW: I run LS7 gaskets but with a 4.125 bore Darton sleeved LS2 block. I don't know that I would run them with a 4.00 bore.

It's fine to run a larger gasket than bore but definitely not the other way around. If Tony Mamo told you to run a certain size you should listen to him since he did the work on your heads .
