Do a search in the transmission section, there are alot of write ups on it. However, I will say this- it isn't cheap to do because you need alot more parts than just the manual trans. You'll need M6 pedals, clutch, flywheel, I think a different driveshaft, manual trans crossmember, etc. Unless you got the car for a steal you would have been better off spending a little more and picking up an M6.

Check the Manual Trans stickies at the top of the forum, then post if/when you have specific questions not answered there..

What components do you already have?

It won't be a quick and painless process, so definitely take your time.

Where you got all that for around $1000.... I want to know. Assuming it's all in good shape, that's not too bad of a deal.

Your budget is around $2000 more, where you planning on rebuilding the transmission? Also, were you planning on doing all the work yourself? If so, you'd save quite a bit while strengthening the transmission as well.

You could get a TICK Level 2 Rebuild Kit for about $630. Other than that, I'd grab a TICK Master Cylinder, New Pilot and Release Bearing. Other than that, you'd need the pedal set, center console, maybe a poly mount for the crossmember.

Even at all that you're not going to be much over $1,000.

As for the driveshaft, I'm unsure if you can just grab new ujoints for the Manual or not.

I already have all the parts for the swap and I'm in the process of doing the swap. After everything is set and done its going to end up costing me a little over $3000, that's labor and parts. But to me that's not bad because I'm going to have an m12 with less then 30k miles, new ls7 clutch kit, and a new tick master. If I would of wanted to upgrade my automatic tranny it would of ended up being close to the same amount because good converters are expensive, and then I would end up getting a stronger tranny at the same time. That stuff alone is near 3k already, the other thing is all those horror stories I read about the auto trannys not lasting.

There was a trans shop (sponsor here) doing rebuilt transmissions for I want to say $1500. Can't remember the name though. That's a good deal if you ask me. Check around the manual trans section and I'm sure you'll see them.

You can find good deals on here. There are no differences in the LS TA/Camaro T56 unless it's out of a LT1 car
