sumped tank info need
I have a 99 camaro and I am going with a external pump. I have a 98 tank that I am going to get a sump welded in it. My question is where to run the return. Should I have them weld a fitting in the top or side or other options. Also can I get the sending unit to still work 98 to 99 not sure. It would b nice to know how much fuel is in there. Also I tried searching for pics of sumped tanks and external. So any pics it info will help thanks

I run a -8 90º bulkhead fitting into the top of the stock bulkhead or bucket or whatever you want to call it. I cut off the factory hardlines on both sides, and drilled out/smoothed the hole on the driver's side (return or feed i dunno) and ran the bulkhead through there. The riveted on bucket/sender I cut off, then had it tig'd to the inch or two of hardline i left. Sorry no pics, but hopefully you can visualize what I'm talking about.
I don't know how you lsx guys have your pumps and senders wired... Mine had a mutual ground for the pump and sender IIRC, I just clipped off all the pump stuff, and have the single wire from the sender going into the factory harness. I had to install and pull the "bucket" a few times to get the sender float adjusted correctly to read like it used to on the factory gauge.

I actually revised my setup as I'm now running -8 up to the rails and running a -6 return. As far as the sender, I'm staying with the stock 98 sender, but I made a custom gauge cluster from a plastic blank and Autometer Cobalt gauges. The fuel gauge is programmable just by setting it into program mode while the tank is empty and then filling the tank. As far as horsepower, I'm unsure, but I'm planning on being in the 700 range with a single turbo. Right now we are concentrating on the fuel tank, rear end, and chassis getting setup, then the rest of the drivetrain will go together. Already have Wolfe Racecraft thru floor subframe connectors welded in, and the only reason we are doing the tank now is so we can mount up the 8.8 in the car and not have to worry about dropping it later when we do the fuel system. But since the car will see some street driving, the A1000 will be controlled by Aeromotive's fuel pump controller.

My car is a 98 Z28. Wish I could help you. Knowing that a 98 Sending unit wont read with a 99 PCM (As I have swapped a 2000 PCM into mine), you would have to correct that with a Tune via the Chevy Express van fuel segment. My way around this, and to be original, is that I'm building a custom cluster with one of Autometer's programmable fuel gauges. I don't know if you could run a 99 sending unit in a 98 tank, I've not had the pleasure working inside a 99-02 tank.
