Default 03 cobra theft recovery: lsx or termi swap?!?!

so heres the story.....
after my deployment to iraq in 07 i bought my dream car 03 cobra it wasnt sonic blue but a termi none the less. solid rear axle, kenne bell 2.6, viper spec t56 and a couple of other goodies. upon leaving to afghan land in 08 i left the termi in my parents garage for safe keeping.a week before we came back on a december night my cobra was stolen from my parents garage ...... it was recovered 4 days later without a front end, motor/trany, seats, cluster and wheels. i kept the car hoping to someday rebuild it better than it once was...

now its finally got a front end the interior is immaculate, going to be painted sonic blue........ but its still missing an engine.

iv seen a couple of cobra swaps going for 2500 without the blower and up to 4500 complete (which is ridiculous for a stock engine if you ask me). i know the ford guys are going to give me hell but you just cant beat the lsx series . i was thinking of building a low compression 408 with a brand new lq4/9 block, stage 3 317s, a bad *** t56 and saving a little more for a twin turbo kit. the ls swap wont cost as much and it has a lot more displacement and seems like the easiest way to get a 700whp daily driver. i really dont see the point in spending all that money just to build the car back to stock specs.

any and all comments and opinions are welcome, sorry about writing a book, i will post pics of the cars rebuild as soon as me and technology come to speaking terms.

thanks for looking
steve

I'm all about swapping an LSx into everything, but if it were me I'd just find another terminator pull out for it. $4500 for a stock motor, but look at how little you'll spend for 400whp. You're gonna spend that at least for the LSx swap. My .02

Stick w/ a FORD mod motor for your dream car. If you want LSx, go with a C6 vette, which is better overall in performance.

I'd just throw another termi in there and buy an old mustang to swap an ls into.

First why was a cobra your dream car for the looks or just the whole car and powerplant? second A 03 cobra to me means something more than lets say a foxbody. I would for sure buy another 4v mod motor. The motor is expensive but they are fantastic from the factory with forge bottom end. I would look into a aluminator and a whipple and be completly happy with that beast.

id stick a whippled mod motor in it, i just dont see any downside to doing that. then again whippled 03s are everywhere and i like having something different...........so id ditch the blower altogether and do a hellion turbo kit.

Id have to say go forced induction on a lsx engine swap, Itll be different forsure, Go with a blower so when folks see/hear it run they will still hear the blower but not the (mustang) sound, Then when the hood is popped thats when they will see why, Just my .02cents on it. Good luck whatever you choose

Im on both sides of this, my mind says to tell you to just put another cobra motor in it and have fun with the car as it was meant to be but than my heart says a blown lsx in there would just be sweet and the joy of pissing off the ford guys makes it even sweeter.

++++2 on fighting for our country.

For what power plant you should use, Im with zmg00camaross on this, did you like the whole package, or just the looks? I would say usually people buy the 03-04 for the badass power plant. Thats why I would buy one (not saying the lsx series isnt bad *** also haha). A twin turbo lsx would be sweet and im guessing one of the only ones in existance. Im shure if you keep searching around you can find a deal somewhere. Check the mustang forums.

A New 5.0 would be nice or a 5.4 4V with a KB 4.2! But keep it mod motor.

+1 It's a bitch that people are are so low to steal from someone else, especially from someone who is fighting for the freedom they are abusing to do it.

If it was my car I would definitely go with the 408 supercharged.

I'd do the termi motor.....

Unless you forged a bottom end on the LSX AND supercharged it....and even then it would be just to **** people off that you put an LSX in. The termis are a special mustang....I'd try and keep it that way.

Stuff an LS in it, you'll have alot more room to work in there and put a blower on it. Then take all the Ford and Cobra emblems and stick some bowties on it.

i say buy a aes boost 5.3 (with aluminum block) and stick a large whipple on top of it,
it will be smaller, lighter, make more power, and you can put a nice sounding cam in it without spending 2k+ lol
i do love termi's but for performance vs price this is your best bet

+1 termis are a special mustang and I'd keep it that way. Stick to the termi's roots somehow IMO if the price isn't too far from the $4.5k you mentioned, swap a later gt500 blown motor in it. Now that would be a much better conversion than a LSX

Ya a TT 5.4 sounds like a nazty combo, would be way different and make enough TQ to destroy some radials through 5th gear. Win annnnd win.

thanks for all the feed back fellas!
as i stand right now a condor 5.4 does sound tempting but the 408 lsx has me hooked. i have a forged 408 with l92s in my 72 nova thats held up with 150 shot for 90k. its had a hard life but its bullet proof. its a proven combo for me so naturally im gonna go with what i know, but im not closing myself off to any suggestions. i just want to do this great car justice
