Cadillac CTS-V - I'm out.....

Of the V game that is...
In a very strange change of events, I "inherited" my wife's 2008 BMW 335i sport last night.
She feel in love with a 08 335i hard-top convertible and she simply "had to have it". In all fairness, my brother in law works at the dealership and we did get a smoking deal on it and on my V as a trade.
So I, being the considerate and loving husband that I am (and most importantly knowing what kind of unbelievable platform for speed the N54 platform is), gladly accepted. Let the twin turbo mods begin!
Gents, it has been a great ride and I appreciate each and every one of you who chimed in to help me further enjoy my V ownership.
Cheers to you all.

Haha....I guess not.
The V and its pure "rawness" will be missed. I am consoling myself by hearing that twin turbo "whoooosh".

I actually gave up an 08 335-i sedan with 22K one owner miles with a set of brand new mounted Blizzak snows to buy my 06 V with 3800 miles. The Bimmer was 27 at a local Toyota dealer, paid 26 for the V. BMW had all options except nav, black on black. My new V is infrared/cashmere and basically brand new. Good luck with the BMW, they are also a great car! I still sometimes wonder if I did the "right thing," especially since I'm already 10 Gs into mods for the Caddy!

LS2duc,
You're right...everytime I drove her car (now mine) I was impressed. Fit and finish and build quality is so good.
After researching the n54 motor I am blown away. With a 500 dollar tune and DCI, I will put down an easy 45 more hp than I had with my bolt on V.

Wow! You just traded In the V just like that? I suppose I could too if it was for a V2 or a c6 z06. Good luck to ya and your new BM dub.

Why not trade in her car?

I'll admit two things.
1. The BMW is faster, I raced a good friends 335i at the track, and with the twins it beat my 07 by 3/10ths... with a tune it would have murdered it.
2. I wouldn't trade my V for the Bimmer ever... The V feels faster, it looks menacing compared to the V, and FEELS WAY faster.

AHHHH!, not what I want to hear right now....just bought the Maggie kit for my V, complete axles, shifter, $$$$ etc, etc. I MUST have loved the Caddy to let the Bimmer slip through....

Could have easily done that. But I chose to jump on the BMW because by this time next week it will be faster than any intake/exhaust/tune V. Bottom line, with the twin turbo setup on that car, they are beasts when slightly modded. I just couldn't pass that up.

Your statement in #1 doesn't surprise me. There are guys on n54tech.com that are running some amazing numbers with only dci/tune/downpipes. According to cars hitting the dyno with the same setup as I am purchasing, I should have the new car putting down approx. 380hp and over 400tq at the wheels after a tune and dci.
As for #2, I agree that the V is raw and I love it for that fact. She will be missed (but everything said above will help me recover quickly) :burn:

My girl has the '07 335i hardtop vert. I gotta say it's a pretty impressive ride for not being in the M-series... now if she could just stop hitting curbs....

i got to drive alot of n54 vehicles and overall its not really much to compare to the V1. its a swap most people would have made if they had the actual choice.
drop back in and let us know how the modding goes.

Nothing like uncorking the restrictions an OEM puts on a turbocharged motor.
They build them to last, tune them to last and once you get your hands on them its like horsepower just starts falling from the sky.
Good luck!

yeah its like the same thing we have going on with the ls9/lsa motors.

I've driven both platforms pretty hard. I prefer the V for the overall experience/interior space, but I have mad respect for the BMWs. I guess part of the equation was the V I compared had 460-500 wheel and the BMW was stock. With a few mods the scales may have been more even.
Congrats on the acquisition, can always get another V in a few years for pocket change.:jest:

we had a few other cars to drive around while my V was up on jack stands for about 3 months.... we get back into the V and my wife turns to me and says " it feels like being on a flying loveseat". she was more of a fan of the smaller feel of the other cars we were using while the v was down.

You'll love the 335i. We have a built one (see sig) and its a blast to drive. Hopefully putting methanol injection and a new cooler on it once the weather turns nice here.
One thing to know . . . it has an open diff. Wasn't a big deal for 07 (our year) to put in a limited slip, but I believe in 08 the welded the diffs, which makes it substantially more expensive.
We run a Procede tune from Vishu. The amount of control this thing has over the system is outstanding. They even have a launch control where you essentially press a button, floor it, and when you let off the brake it begins to build boost at whatever ramp-up you've set for optimum launch. We can also switch maps via the press of the DTC or steering wheel buttons, letting us go to Meth mod, or economy mode, etc.
Vishnu has even put out an economy map that prevents boost from building, and nets you another few MPG.
If I were you, I'd seriously consider looking into the Procede.

I thought about the Procede, but wanted something more concealable. Not to mention I have a lot of warranty left and needed something I could remove in a moments notice.
Thus, I went with the JB+ from BMS. I also have their dual cone DCI on the way. With just these two mods, I should be looking at an extra 60-75 hp at the wheels...100+ if running higher octane than 93 (ie. race gas).
Needless to say I am stoked,

Whoa! Installed my dual cone intake and tune last night. According to other forum members just these two mods are good for 75hp at the wheels on 93 octane (which I am running).
Thing is easily a sub 5 second 0-60 car and pulls like a beast up top. Amazing results...

FRiCK,
You are probably correct...once I go out of warranty, that is. The gain from them is huge, but they are so damn apparent no way to hide those from the dealer (aka the code police).
