Seems like it would be high milage but as long as its been taken care of well and doesn't burn alot of oil you could cam it. Might want to do a leak down or at least a compression test on it though

as far as i know the motor has been taken care of in the past and doesnt burn any oil. i just bought the car over the weekend from a guy who said he took care of it and he said his buddy who he got it from rebuilt the top end about 25-30k ago. if i were to cam it i wouldn't go extreme, maybe a tsp 220 or 224 cuz its my dd. i would also do the oil pump and ls2 timing chain set

I just put a tsp 228r cam in my camaro that has 170,000 miles on the clock. When we took it apart the engine look like it had 50,000 miles. If your car has been well taken care of it won't hurt it but also replace your vavle springs, pushrods and it wouldn't hurt to replace the rockers. Oh and I'm spraying 125 shot to and it loves it.

And I've seen this car in person and it's NASTY!
Just check everything real well when you break it down and go ahead and freshen up all you can with it broke down and you should be fine.

Yeah spinning a bearing would be bad I spun ALL mine on my lt1 when I had it and danger it was a mess. But if the motor was rebuilt then you should be fine but if you don't know for sure definitely check the motor over

Just do the mods. If it blows, it blows- You're in the area of new rebuild territory as we speak anyway. The money you spend checking it out- assuming you pay someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to an LS1 is a waste, as this could just be put toward a rebuild that you're going to need pretty soon anyway (most likely). I say either shoot the dice and mod, or rebuild it.

I think it is worth it just to rebuild it that way you know its ready to rock.
Mine is over 200K and I thought about cam etc but if I'm going to do that, I'm just going to rebuild the whole thing. I've done full bolt ons and I'm Just gonna run it till it goes cause I want to see how many miles I can get.
I think it would hold. Just don't want to do more work soon.
Just my two cents. Good luck!

If you do end up sliding a cam in just keep it mild so you don'yt have to spin it to the moon. Replace oil pump and timing chain and you should be good to go. I have also heard from some folks that it may me good to run conventional oil in a higher mileage motor. Had several friends that spun bearings more than once on high mileage motors using synthetic, swapped in another high mileage motor and used conventional oil and no problems. Also absolutely make sure that oil level is at top of hash marks anytime you run it. Even just 1/2 -1 qt low can cause it to starve the bearings in the upper rpm's. Volume is alot more important than increased pressure.
