Default opinions on GTO's?

Hey guys, I'm a camaro owner. im having an *** ton of problems with my 98 z28 and its starting to get under my skin. Theres a dealership around here that has quite a few goats on the lot, and i wanna try to trade my camaro in for one. What is everyones opinions advice and all that good stuff? I want to think this through before i go along with it. I mean Insurance on a GTO is MUCH cheaper than itd be on my camaro. i think itd be smarter.

thanks guys

Insurance isn't too bad, parts for this car on the other hand are hard to get ahold of and are NOT cheap, you pretty much join a special club when u purchase a GTO simply because you just don't see to many running around, the cars are a real head turner even if people claim it has bland styling... I get about 16-22 mpg so gas isn't too bad either id say go for it I am just in love with mine!

I would be paying 18K for a 50,000 mile car.

The prices of them is steadily increasing over the last four months or so but its still high IMO.

To camaroboy....20K for an Fbody? I guess there is an *** for every seat but dang....lol.

I agree, they are nice cars but here are some of the downfalls. My buddy has an 04 GTO and my cousin has a G8.

-Parts are expensive, and performance/stock parts sometimes have to wait for shipping from Australia

- if you plan on modding and drag racing your half shafts will get eaten alive, my buddy went through 2 sets, second time destroyed his gears. Took 3 months to get a performance half shaft and gear set since it had to come from Australia.

In my personal opinion I would pull the engine out of your Camaro and make a stroker motor out of it and put a nice rear end in it and call it good.

Yes we know you had them before us, lol. And yes, they are beautiful in comparison, IMO

EDIT: I dont know this to be true, but i spoke to an Aussie that lives and works down the road from me, and was telling him how id like to have the body kit for the HSV and he alluded to me that aussies like the look of the GTO.

However, i find this hard to believe.

Not entirely true. If you do a few things to reduce the wheel hop, you'll be fine. Also G-force in Kansas stocks a lot of drivetrain parts and gears.

That second one is untrue or based on very early ownership. There are a multitude of american driveline companies that make parts and halfshafts are almost always in stock. Gearsets can be gotten through aussie or america, and they're more expensive then Fbody sets but not rediculously so...eaton also makes a posi.

I have over 400 to the wheels and I've twisted two sets of halfshafts because I can get my car to hook...they've been stock shafts...I have 110K on it. If he was "eating halfshafts" his car most likely had a wheelhop issue.

Almost any performance part for this car can be american sourced, some of the parts are expensive....it comes with owning the car. G8's suffer the same fate.

I miss my GTO. I would love to have another one. I've been watching prices on them. I'd get a 05/06 tho. So I say go for the GTO.
