Default My 3-4 shift fork

Got the transmission back from a local shop here in town. They don't seem to be too sure that they can rebuild it properly so TDP is getting my business. Everything looks good (at a quick glance). Gears seem to look really good but I'm no expert so I will leave it for Jason at TDP.

The biggest problem is that my shift fork is missing the pads and an actual piece of metal. Now I know when I drained the fluid why it looked like some metal was coming out.

That looks more like the 1-2 shift fork, but definitely broken... TDP will take care of you.

Really? If that is the case, then I guess the shop knew how to take one apart but knows nothing about the transmission in general.

How can you tell which fork it is? Number on the fork itself?

The number if you could see it, but also the shear size. The 1-2 fork is longer and wider than the 3-4.

Where do you live? Are you near a large city? (If so, you should be able to find shops that specialize in your transmission.)

BTW - I hope you aren't married. My better half would ax murder me if I tore down a transmission on the hard wood floor. lol

Then this may be the 1-2 fork because I saw another smaller fork in the parts box.

Toronto and Detroit are each two hours away. The shop in Detroit that specializes in these, don't do rebuilds for the time being. Mid summer is their target. A shop in Toronto specializes in Vettes and I heard to stay away from them. Honestly Jason at TDP has been very honest with me and the price is about the same with shipping. Plus I think TDP can do a much better job since the T56 is something they know very very well.

No, not married. A shop took it apart for me and it was the first time they've seen a 6-speed manual. He didn't look too sure of himself even though they advertise manual transmission rebuilds. I will be going through all the parts myself this weekend and wrapping them up so that I can get it ready to be shipped next week.

That was the 3-4 shift fork. 1-2 is larger and looks good. Transmission is all packed up and ready to go.
