Default 1997 A4 tranny in a 1994 car

Tried a search, too many results for the vague words...buddy wants a used tranny in his '94 TA. Found one on craigslist for $500 but its out of a '97. Would this be a direct swap or will there be issues due to the OBD1/OBD2 differences/wiring harness?

Thanks...

The Electronics are different internally, as well as small things. The '93 is a 4L60, the 94 is a 4L60E unique to that year, the 1995 is a 4L60E unique to that year aswell, 96-03 are the same, just in 98 it has the different case.

You can use it just have to add one wire into the large trans plug to the pcm blue connector pin #6 for the PWM TCC lock up. Then flash it with a 95 file. http://shbox.com/1/harness_connector_faces.htm click the 4L60E tab at the bottom

I had this same problem but my issue was the current 4l60e in my 96 was a 94...so what you can do is transfer the non-pwm pump and 94 valve body from the 94 and install it on the 97 4l60e case...JUST BE CAREFUL OF ALL THE STAINLESS CHECK ***** SO GET A BOOK TO MAKE SURE THERE ALL INSTALLED IN PROPER LOCATIONS....DON'T FORGET TO USE THE 94 SEPARATOR PLATE ALSO.......

Thanks for all the info guys...

Well, here's kind of a twist. I called on the transmission today, and apparently it's attached to an LT1 longblock, complete with accessories, wiring harness, and ecu(OBD2)...all for $500 and was pulled at 115k miles(all out of a '97 formula).

My buddys car is pretty damn ragged out as far as the drivetrain goes. If we used the OBD2 computer and '97 tranny, would this make things easier and more "plug and play"?

It's a hell of a deal for $500!

its probably easier to run your current harness and ecu, a buddy of mine installed a 97 motor in his car with the 97 harness and had a ton of issues, he ended up reinstalling his 94 ecu and harness, there are a few more sensors on the 97 motor but they are unneeded if you use a obd1 harness.

I have a 96/97 motor i will be installing after i finish rebuilding it, I will be using my 94 ecu

I'm talking mainly concerning getting the transmission working properly, not the motor.

Essentially, which of these puzzle pieces work best together to make a '97 tranny work in a '94 car with a '94 motor, if any:

'97 ECU
'94 ECU
'97 Harness
'94 Harness

I was going to say that anyone willing to pay $500 for an LT1 60e is retarded. I bought a perfectly working A4 swap for $50. The guy had it listed for months and no one would touch it. The $500 for the whole engine / trans combo is a pretty decent price.

I told you what you need to do above. The 97 harness will not mate up to the chassis or dash harness. The 97 pcm could be used but would need some codes deleted and knock sensor changed on the motor so again do what I said above. Add wire, reflash done.

^ok, didnt know if the 97 computer or harness would make things easier at all. So we just need to flash the '94 pcm with a '95 file after adding this wire?
