Harness differences

Harness differences
Up until now I thought the only differences in the truck harnesses were that they were either DBC or DBW. Well I've stumbled into yet another problem with my 5.3 swap. Apparently the harness that I'm using(purchased from a jy off Ebay) is for an 04' 4.8 or 6.0 engine, I should've sent it back when I noticed that it was a dbw harness and not a 2000' as the listing stated. So now came the time to install the o2 sensors and I find out that the harness has female o2 connectors and the "5.3" o2 sensors that I ordered also have female connectors. Yeah I know I can just splice the wires together and call it a day but I dont wanna have to splice wire each time I replace sensors. So I went back on Rockauto's website just verify and sure enough the 5.3 o2 sensors connectors are different from the 4.8 & 6.0. So for anyone in the middle of their swap, make a note to take a look at the o2 connectors on your harness before ordering sensors. Sorry for such a long post.

Not to mention the Vans 6.0L were still DBC till at least 06. DBW really didn't start to 2003 although there are 2001-2 trucks that were DBW most those being 6.0L out of SUV's.
You need to order the O2's that fit your harness there are several which varies by years.

Are the 02's really different, or is it just harness differences? my guess is it is the same 02 sensor with a different plug. So you can go either way, get the 02 sensor to match the harness you have or get different plugs to match the 02 sensor you have. I woud avoid cutting and splicing of the 02 sensor wiring its self, you run the risk of not getting a proper air sample, and like you said its no fun to change the sensor in the future.

Marky raises a good point. I never really thought about the differences in O2's... I know some LOOK different but that's all. I just buy the proper ones for my harness and leave it be.

I only wanted to let the masses know to beware of the differences in the harnesses, especially if it's coming from a junk yard. It wasnt a mistake on my part, I ordered sensors for what I was told was a 5.3 harness. What makes this whole sensor difference thing is that the 4.8's and 5.3's share the same parts minus the crank, so for GM to give the 5.3 a different sensor from the other 2 engines just seems to be weird to say the least.
