Carbureted LSX forum - Drag Radials

I need to buy a set of drag radials and I have been looking at Mickey Thompson ET Streets or Nitto NT555R Extreme Drags. I think I am leaning towards the Mickey's I have heard nothing but good things but wanted a few other opinions. I only put about 1k miles on my car each year and I am thinking about just leaving them on all the time so I have traction on the street and strip. I was told they will prob get me between 3-6k miles which will last me a few years before I need to replace them. If there is a different tire out there you think is better for me please mention it and I will check it out.

IT is like this:

Mickey Thompsons, hook the best in dry weather, dont last very long, work awesome at the track or street.

Nittos, whoop ass performance in the rain, last forever, excellent street performance, not so great at the track.

Mickey's hands down if you want the car to hook

It depends on your car/setup, goals etc.
I would run only as much tire as you need, rank them like this,
1. Hoosier
2. Mickey Thompson
3. BFG/Nitto

This based on actual experience with all 3 in the 275/60/15 size.
The best traction will give you the least treadwear. Goodyear is making a tire in this size, I have no experience with it or have others in the class I run.

Give NT05R a try, they are the stickest tire I have own. They last about 5-6 miles depending on how you drive. They let me hook in second gear on good days. I had 555R extreme and they suck ass compare to nt05r but they do last a lot longer.

The Nitto 555R is the best well rounded tires and they dont make a NT05 for a 15 inch wheel, so i will never use them. The slight traction i lose is well worth it for a tire that can be driven in the rain better than a actual street radial. I have a separate set of tires for the track or serious business, the 555R is the best daily driver tire there is.

Now if you dont drive the car hardly, the M/Ts are beast on the street and are like a slick at the track.

Yeah I only do 40 rolls and it was on my 17x10. Didn't know these wasn't produce in 15's. I would always go with m/t and hoosier for track.

Yea, it sucks becauser i wanted to see how the NT05s do.

But the 555Rs do great so i am not worried about it. They are pretty much the ultimate street tire.

Thanks for input guys. I think I am going to buy a new set of rear wheels and put MTs on them and use those for track and then put the nittos on for street. I really didn't want to have to buy 4 tires but it sounds like my best option.

I didnt either, i have 3, i set of wheels for the street, nittos, a set of 26 inch tall MTs for the 1/8th mile and then 28x14.5x16s for business on the street where i really need traction for those that need shutting up.

if you are only going to drive about 1k miles per year go with the MT street radial i wouldnt even consider the nitto if all you are going to put on them are 1k mile a year. yes the nitto are better in the rain and by rain i mean down pour. but it sounds like you are not going to go out driving in the rain anyway, so why sacrafice traction. i got about 3k mile out of my mt and i even drove them in the rain i had no problem with them.

mickys stick like glue, got a set on my 68 camaro. but dont get caught coming home from the track by a monsoon. i wouldnt have a 68 camaro anymore if someone had been beside me on the interstate when the back just walked in the other lane at 35mph. scary stuff !!!:eek2:

I got the nittos because i do a ton of street driving.

When i have the spare money, i will be getting a set of 555Rs that are 325/50/15, i was impressed how well the 245/50/16s did, so i think the 325s will be superb.

Anybody (besides me) running M&H drag radials (http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=70&action=show&show_products_mode=cat_click)? They look similar to the M/T's. Only street driving so far, but they hook pretty good for that...

I bet they are over priced and just the same quality and life of a MT. Bet they are great, but MTs are cheaper.

I bet yellow bullet is an excellent source of info on this topic. Although those guys are full kill mode 24/7, so they don't put any weight on streetability.

Yep... no one in my 275 class runs the M/T's. Class leaders run Hoosiers.
Of course these are 8 sec race cars, that 60 ft in the 1.2 range. If your buying track day tires...Hoosiers.
But if you can hook with an MT you will get a little longer tread life on the street. If you can hook with a Nitto...you should be concentrating on the other end of the car.

Ha ha no they were on my s10 with a 355 and a full spool rear end as long as it isn't coming a flood and you don't act stupid you will be fine
