It hydrolocked itself. There is about a 2" hole in the block above the starter and it cracked my oil pan.:bang::bang::chug::zzz::chug::barf::zzz: Thats my plan for it. I will be looking for a new block now and I hope my crank is good.

Damn Brandon that sucks ass!!!
I have the FTRA ram air kit and I have no probablems with it suck water and I drive mine evey day... But yeah I'm wondering how it did that also???

Holy crap man! How did it hydro-lock? Did it blow a head gasket without knowing and the coolant seaped into the cylinder overnight or were you driving through a big puddle and it sucked up water? Damn,,,, that's hella bad news and very sorry to hear about that. :(

If it cracked the pan,,,, it may have taken a rod with it.

I am not sure how it got water in it but it has been a couple weeks since I drove it and it wouldn't start finally it did and was clicking really loud

If its outside and raining hard can water get in through the nostrils?

*02WS6TURK*
03-13-2011, 01:26 PM
Oh heck yeah it can. After I took the plastic ducts out from behind the ram air nostrils, I drove it to Wongs and it was pouring out, and when I got to his shop I checked my air filter and it was soaked. Another reason I don't drive in crap conditions.

98goldz28
03-13-2011, 02:06 PM
so even tho it was sitting, water can get in there. So my guess is, raining like a mofo, water got in the nostrils, water now sitting in the intake, boom.

Suck and I hope you get her/him back on the road soon.

Wow! I didn't know they would design something that would have water to go through it. Sounds like you need to ditch the hood and get a cowl hood.

98goldz28
03-13-2011, 02:13 PM
If they removed the piece that deflects the water away from the airbox its a strait shot in

98goldz28
03-13-2011, 02:14 PM
Now since I am having an SS hood put on; do they let water in as well?

03-13-2011, 03:05 PM

Did it have ported heads?

We have seen several sets crack in the past few years ;)

tmoney223
03-13-2011, 05:50 PM
Hey gold!.. When I got my FTRA kit I read that hardly any air gets through the hood due to how low the scoop is and how far back the opening is. They made a good point. If your driving and it's raining, look at the beads is rain on top of the hood, they don't move, well hardly. So what's happening is that the air us just getting pushed right over the opening of the ram air hood. That's why I want the true ZL1 hood cause it's much higher.

Ellis it did have ported heads. None of the rocker arm mounts were broken off which is where I thought the ported 243's broke. My plan now is to get an LQ9 block and maybe some l92 heads or something similar. I don;t think it is going to be running again this year considering I have to rebuild the tranny as well and with me just having bought a house money is tight and being spent elsewhere.

I would bet you have a crack in an Exhaust port. Sorry man. DO NOT re-use them.

Good luck on the build!

I wish I had the problem of not knowing what to do with an ls1 I would love to finally do the swap in the Jeep.

Been debating on pulling the engine out of the 97' and doing the same on the 94' Jeep YJ - real pita when the po put an RE lift kit on it first...I've seen a nice LT1 swap on a Jeep YJ so its doable.

Brandon - this is the great excuse to put a crate in it

If there's any question of them being cracked, bring them down to my place and we can jetwash, heat them to 160, and pressure test them and see if they are leaking.

So my plan was going to try and do an l92 head swap and rebuild a 408 bottom end using my cam still if it is good but the fast intake is like $850 and then I would need a $500 tb and the heads and rockers and I figured the TFS 235 would be about the same price and flow better and I wont need worry about ptv clearence issues. I have a friend who is really trying to get me to go boost but I can't afford it yet, besides I would have to switch the cam and rear gears.

Brandon, if you decide to go with L92 heads, we should talk. I've been looking into going with a single plane intake and 4bbl style throttle body so my intake and tb might be up for sale, maybe the heads too.
