Default Which HU to get?

I need some help deciding on which HU to get. I've browsed the forum for a possible idea, but when I find one I like it always seems to be discontinued.

Anyways, I already have a amp hooked up which powers my front components and sub. It's a 2000 Formula with the monsoon. I would like to have the HU totally control a iPod. I would like for the HU to at least be able to change to red color display....but that's not required.

I'd say $350 would be the limit to what I'd spend. Thanks.

I would go with an Alpine IDA-X305S. I have it's grandfather, the IDA-X100 in my car and it can do everything you want except for play CDs without the optional Alpine CD changer. Talk to Ian at Kee Audio also as he can certainly help you with your selection.

If you're looking at single din's, then i suggest (non-sponsor link removed). They have great closeout deals

I know what you mean, particularly when I just bought a CD and have to wait until I get home to rip it over to my iPod to listen to it in the car. Man does that ever drive me crazy!

I love my Pioneer P3100DVD, although I wish I had gone with the 7" screen. This one is older, but its close to $350. The newest model is a little more.

I got a sony xplod something-or-other head unit.

Trying to play songs through the usb adapter from my android phone is a nightmare with this system - ask around if you would like that function. I end up using the aux input through the headphone jack on my phone to avoid this.

The other thing I hate about it is only the 3-band equalizer. The head unit boosts the 60hz signals but nothing below. A lot of songs sound awful with the 60hz signal amplified so far and not many frequencies below that - like the rumbling bass from rap/techno songs

I know you said you wanted a HU that played cds, but you should really check out the pioneer MVH-8200. It has an aux input, USB and SD slot. I got an 8g sd card for $20 and it has over 1000 songs and like 30 music videos and 3 movies on it and it hides behind the removal face. I absolutely love it, best HU I've ever had and I've had some really nice ones. Crutchfield has them for around $200 and you can change the colors on them.

I am currently looking for some 1 DIN HUs. I came across the Pioneer MVH-P8200. Do you have any pics of it installed?

I'm planning on getting the Kenwood X995. It's brand new, so I haven't seen many reviews on it, but I'm sure they'll be coming quickly. I'm almost to the point of just getting a Nav unit. But, it was such a pain in the *** to get my HUMount that I don't want to get rid of it.

What to do, what to do.

I'd recommend a Panasonic, because they are hands down the best imo, but it looks like they stopped making them.
