Default Correct Sealant or Loc-Tite for Rocker Studs

Did a little searching and could not find a definite answer. What sealant should be used on the threads of the rocker studs on stock aluminium castings?

I have seen, no sealant, 30w oil, ARP sealant with PTFE, Blue/Red/Green Loc-Tite, and Permatex No.2.

Thanks

Stock bolt holes are blind, so you don't really need sealant. I use red Loctite.

Oil and loctite are not sealants. Use high temp thread sealant.

Why do you need to seal a blind hole?

Thats what I thought when I was porting them. Never saw any holes in the intake runners. But I read through this thread and found its apparently a rare occurrence.

gregrob I noticed that you recommended the Green Loc-Tite in another thread. Did you find a problem with the product and this application? I didn't think to check if they were stock castings the OP had.

I am cutting down my guide plates tonight and want to use the correct product on the rocker studs this time around.

Keep em coming. Thanks!

Where did I recommend green loc tite for rocker studs? I must have ben drunk.

As for sealing a blind hole, I just feel its good practice. Not completely necessary if you're positive the porting didn't uncover the holes, but then again it does keep oilout of the threads regardless...

I put a set of roller rockers in my car several years ago. Since I was already in there, I thought I'd throw in a set of ARP studs. I didn't use any Loc-Tite or sealant. Why? The OE studs didn't have any, so I assume that GM felt it wasn't necessary. Torqued them to 50 ft/lbs and called it a day...

That would work just fine, I prefer high temp thread sealant though...

Sounds good. Ill be picking up some high temp sealant and heading to my shop in about 20 mins.

Another thread involving rocker studs... https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ker-studs.html

gregrob your post number 2 in the above thread. I was eyeballing the green stuff a few weeks ago but settled with blue. I will be switching to Loctite 37398 thread sealant. Ive used it before at work. Well see what happens.

It's not a blind hole on any head that has had significant port work done to it.

I used copper silicone, same stuff I use on my head studs. Works like a charm.

The exhaust rocker studs do not need anything since they are indeed blind. The intake rocker stud holes always break through into the intake port when porting is done. Not sure if stock unported heads stud holes are blind or not.

That was an inside joke, when everyone was touting green loctite as the only way to make an opti live.
